Hot Stove: UNC Basketball

I do agree with a couple things cjones posted. The lack of player development is a concern. Now, I'm very reluctant to criticize the staff, but I think this is a valid point. Don't think any of our current coaches stand out as a player development expert.

The concern about losing EC is the ripple effect on future recruiting. Having a 5star player transfer out brings up all sort of doubt.
Caleb Love - 5 star - transferred out. Not sure if the ripple effect has set in yet from that transfer. Maybe it has, with the failure to land a decent big last year. Should this be a trend ( and two 5 stars leaving and not landing a big, may be a trend), then this may be the beginning of the end for Hubert. If Ian leaves - and not to the pros, but portals out - the end may be nigh for Coach Davis unless he brings in a new starting 5 from the portal and they go Elite 8 next year.

Love was shown the door. He did not really have the option to stay.

Would love to know why he is leaving. More money somewhere else? Just didn't want to play for Hubert anymore? Hubert has a better PG coming in?

Cadeau is gone.

That really nice win stretch at the end of the season was partly fueled by ability to have more size on the court with Drake at the three while Withers crashed the boards and made a bunch of threes (huge props to Withers for that run, or maybe to HD for helping set up the opportunity). But it was also marked by less PT for Cadeau. And Trimble played a tiny bit less too.

Coach Davis: "I'm so happy to be coaching at the university I love, where the most important thing to me is the relationships"

The World: "Okay, this seems like a good time to defenestrate "relationships" in college athletics and make it all about $$$$$"

I just don't understand fans being happy when a player leaves when there's no guarantee the team will get someone to come in that's better in their place. You'd think if a player was happy there and the money was right they would stay. Either they aren't happy or the money isn't right, and that's a problem.

Was EC shown the door too?
Hubert gave Love every opportunity, every chance, let him shoot to his hearts content, shot us right out of some games at times, yet Hubert stuck with him… only to show him the door?

Same with EC, Hubert started him 68 out of his 74 games here. Gave him the keys to the car… let him turn the ball over, over and over, yet Hubert stuck with him… only to show him the door too?

Yes, Elliot was shown the door, too.
