Hopefully, UNC will build some kind of train system to connect the two campuses.

I remember reading as part of the arena proposal (or maybe it was an IC podcast about the arena proposal) that the initial effort will be express buses between the two parts of campus.

But I'm hoping that, long term, there will be an underground rail system built.

Underground is likely not cost feasible. I posted the picture before, but I think the ideal solution would be something like what WVU has.

i live right off Estes. This is a disingenuous way of selling it imo. A little different to walk through campus as opposed to walking up a busy highway
It’s more of a stroad than a highway. But in addition to being busy, it is literally uphill both ways. You need to be very fit to attempt that walk. The campus walk is relatively flat until you get to the Smith Center.

I definitely agree with that. If this goes through, they should definitely find a way to make it a much more pleasant walk than it is currently.

I did once live in apartments right by where Hillsborough Street meets MLK (it was Airport Road back then), and frequently walked between where Franklin and Columbia meet and my apartment via MLK back then. That’s about the halfway point.

But totally agree that bit’s the walk through the campus that makes the walk between Franklin and the Dean Dome an enjoyable walk.

I thought I had read somewhere that an off road pedestrian pathway was already part of the planning. Anyone else remember that?
