I imagine it’s pretty hard if you don’t have family or roots in the other country and if you don’t have a job lined up in the other country. Uprooting your life can also be challenge if you have a family and a career. Then, depending on where you go, language can be an issue.
Now if you’re not currently working (but have money) or have a job you can just leave without concern, and if you don’t have kids who still depend on you, it might be a little easier if you can handle it emotionally.
But it can be done. I have a friend who gained citizenship in Australia and another who did the same in Sweden (two of the harder countries to do that in). Neither was particularly wealthy, but both worked in software, which i imagine helped a lot. Took about 10 years residency in both cases. Over two decades ago now, so not sure how different things might be today. It easier than you think to move if you have money to acquire property and live. Citizenship in desirable places with health care, solid property law and privacy protections is much harder.
I couldn’t live in Australia. No way I could get in the Christmas spirit during the summer. But it can be done. I assume the same is true for PAs?There are a ton of podcasts and youtube series about moving to Portugal. Canada can be easy if you are in the right job class. Right now Doctors and nurses can get work permits super easy.
Why worry about it? Just pick where you want to live and sneak across their border. Im sure you won’t run into any obstacles and will be openly welcomed by their g’ment.Asking for a friend - but seriously my wife and I joke about it but I'm starting to wonder
I spent a Christmas camped on the beach in Australia in 90 degree heat. was weird af., but I could totally live in Australia.I couldn’t live in Australia. No way I could get in the Christmas spirit during the summer.
double taxation isn't too much of a problem with Canada. I can't speak to the other countries. The tax treaty with Canada (FOR NOW) is pretty generous with like the first $200 K of income being able to be off-set. You pay somewhat higher taxes in Canada, but you can deduct out nearly all of it with the US. Untill Trump fucks that up. He has threatened to get rid of these deals to punish overseas voters.I've checked and Italy/Portugal are likely our destination when our parents aren't with us any longer. The biggest issues seem to be double taxation and healthcare/insurance.
I believe so.I assume the same is true for PAs?
