How hard is it to move to another country?

It sounds like for now for me it will have to remain a pipe dream - I don't have enough funds to stop working and I don't know how easy it would be to find a new job in another country
I’ve been thinking about this for a while, and I’m in the same boat.

Oh well, those of you that actually get to relocate, please tell them that we’re not all maga assholes

I'm sure there governments have actual policy and don't have a masked goon squad looking for brown people. Of course I'm not brown, so my lily white ass would probably be ok. Didn't trump say he liked immigrants from lily white countries...
Yes, trump is a racist piece of shit hiding behind this supposed immigration crises which the republican party has presented no policy to actually make the issue better. Just hire less qualified people to the masked goon squad is trump's answer.

Why not policy? Why is trump afraid of policy? Why is the GOP controlled congress so inept at providing actual policy
We have policy and laws for entering the country legally. And we have policy and laws on the consequences for breaking our immigration laws. It seems you guys don't like the policy and laws and want to turn a blind eye to them or don't care if they are followed or not. Why would it be logical to think new policies would be followed or enforced by the left?

Then why did the republicans see the need to pass an actual bill at the end of the Biden administration?

The narrative that the left wants open borders is bullshit and you know it.

What we want is an easier path for those who want to come to this country to work and be part of the country can. The system is broken, ask people who have followed ever step to the letter.

What trump is doing isn't simply following the laws, he's made it open season on anyone brown. There are numerous cases where they detained people who are citizens, people who are following the law and the pathway to citizenship, people who did nothing more than being brown. The lies that all immigrants are murders and rapist, the lies that countries are emptying their prisons and sending them to the US. All demonstrate trumps hate for brown people. The lies about efficiency and cutting cost, then wasting millions on a completely inhumane facility in the middle of a swamp.

The left does want policy, there have been a few good ones over the years, two I can think of trump ended as soon as he was in office. It's bullshit to say that the left just wants open borders.

New policies would help if they are not simply the same partisan crap we have had over the years. Policies that streamline the process, that allow guest workers, that appropriately staff the court system to handle the cases (funny we cant fund the courts but we can pay for double the ICE agents).

We are mostly all decedents of immigrants. Immigrants help this country. The diversity of culture makes this country a great place. The want of the right to make this a white country (You can look up the elected official that recently said it out loud, I can't remember his name) is disturbing at best.

Yes, Biden's administration made mistakes in immigration, but trump swung the pendulum to the complete opposite side. No administration has solved the issue or been perfect, but we can if the parties would work together. We are a country that supports human rights, this administration doesn't seem to understand that.

You are a smart guy, you know that we could have better policies, we could reduce the need to double the number of ICE agents in the field, we can put that money into technology and process to make the process flow, into judges to make the process flow. But we will never accomplish anything with the racist rhetoric that makes people hate others, that they do not know and have never meet, because of a false perception created by this administration and especially trump.

Had any other republican been elected this term, the numbers of immigrants entering would have probably stabilized, but it wouldn't have been the shit show reality tv that this fucked up administration is giving us.

I do at every opportunity. Usually apologizing profusely and trying to distance ourselves from anything Trumpian.

Many years ago...it was the late 1980s...when I first began to visit Guatemala. One of my first Guatemalan friends, Juan, and I were drinking beers and talking in a cantina. There were quite a few people there but we were sort of over to the side at a table. They were 10 years out from the end of their Civil War (started in 1961). A Civil War that we, the USA, bore a great responsibility for. The military government at the time was pursuing a genocide against the Mayan people and in cities and towns not overwhelmingly Mayan Death Squads operated freely.

Any anti-government, pro-democracy action or speech could get a person targeted and picked up, never to be seen alive again and if their body was recovered would always show clear signs of torture prior to death.

In 1954 we orchestrated a proxy force overthrow of the best government they had ever had because the president dared to speak of a redistribution of wealth and other social programs that could right the legacy of Spanish colonialism.

I told Juan that I hoped that he didn't think ill of me since it was my government that had brought such misery to his country. I was new there and had no idea what to say but history weighed heavily on me. Juan was a law school student and as I would find out, a pro-democracy advocate. I will never forget his response: "I don't associate you, my friend, with the deeds done by your government. Please don't think of me when you see what mine does."

I have operated on that premise ever since...and when I count the months since then I come to some where around 7 years living there...a year at a time, or six months, even three several times. Now I only really manage around a month a year split into two visits.

My wife and I have long planned on ending up there. We'd like to accelerate our move but many things still stand in the way of an immediate departure.

1. I don't know that its BS that the left doesn't want open borders. While the clusterfuck was going on you guys denied there was a problem from the very beginning until it became widely accepted by the left that it was going to be an election issue and then and only then did biden attempt to do anything about it and even said he was being cockblocked by congress which we see now is total BS. If the left doesn't support open borders you wouldn't know it by the denial of a problem even existing, and denigrating the right for objecting to biden's handling of the border. So your claim isn't logical as evidenced by your actions and attacks.

2. trump never said all immigrants are rapists and murderers. THAT is leftist bullshit propagated by the left's media and accepted by the leftist populous. What he said is exactly true and due to biden's actions and inactions, people in this country have suffered at the hands of those trump was referencing. How many thousands of criminals have we detained and deported?

3. Some diversity is good. Unchecked diversity is a cancer. Multi culturalism without assimilation is a disaster and no country should want that. It erodes patriotism and greatly dilutes what the country (any country) stands for and what it means to be a citizen from that country. When people come here and think its cool to fly their native country's flag, its time for them to go. They have no desire to be an American. Just thousands of little pockets of different cultures, languages, and traditions. Nothing that binds people together. No unity. More divisiveness. If you want to move here and become a citizen then learn english, pledge allegiance to the US, assimilate to the culture and customs here and be proud to be an American by flying its flag. I welcome those people and ask how can I help make their assimilation easier. On the other hand, if you just want to come here to work because there is an opportunity and need for you but you don't want to become a citizen then you are welcome but follow our laws, even when it isn't expedient. Assimilate while you are here. You don't have to fly the US flag, but for fuck's sake don't fly your native country's flag while here. Have some respect for the country that provides you the better opportunity. (my use of "flying the flag" is symbolism and not necessarily about a literal flag)

4. The next administration will be the opportunity to fix the immigration system and I do think it needs to be fixed. It needs to be easier, more efficient, merit based (for citizenship), and well vetted so we know who is coming in. The ones here illegally need to go first. It will take trump the rest of his time just to find and deport those biden allowed in. No one is denying we don't need to fix the system.

I agree with number 4.

Number 3, people do assimilate, studies show that by second generation they are pretty much assimilated. What's wrong with their culture and their history being a part of them? It doesn't take away from America or adds to it.

I'm not going to argue about trumps statements, there's so much video available. You're possibly attuned semantics in saying that he didn't say "all". But he used every other word, including statements about immigrants from good countries, you know white countries.

So do you think that Americans in other countries are disrespecting those countries by having and flying an American flag?

Do you think it is an offense that McDonald's and KFC are everywhere in Rome?

Does it offend your sensibilities that people around the world learn English and embrace American culture?

Or is it only offensive if it makes you comfortable?

And how do you feel about the Confederate flag while we are at it? Surely nothing is more offensive to the United States than flying the flag of the nation that fought the most deadly war against the US?

1. Probably, but would depend on the circumstances. Taking an American flag to the Ryder cup wouldn’t be disrespectful.
2. No
3. No
4 ?
5. Confederate flag has no place in this country anymore except in museums. People flying it today are only doing so to be provocative

Have you ever complained about Irish flags being flown in St. Patrick's day or Italian flags flown on Columbus day? Scottish flags flown at Highland Games events in the US? Because that is commonplace in the here. Folks have been doing this over decades, if not centuries (well, century). Does this damage our country.

Somehow, it seems much more likely that your beef is with Mexican flags.

And let's get back to the Confederate flag - I suspect there are substantially more confederate flags flown in the US than any foreign flags. Is this not more damaging to patriotism and does it not dilute what the country stands for? Is it time for them to go, too?

What Country was Scotticus living in? I thought it was somewhere in Central Europe.

Does anyone know about moving to Germany, Poland, Hungary, Czech Republic? I wonder if these countries might be easier to move to and also less likely to have protests against digital nomads and tourists.

As recent visitors to both Hungary (Budapest) and Czech Republic (Prague), I can confidently say that they are protesting against tourists and immigrants. Not like Barcelona and Lisbon, but I did see and feel resentment while visiting both. Not a lot, but it was there and seemed to be growing.

He lived in Prague.

Yeah, how is it that some people might not like certain laws and would want them changed? It’s never happened before. I guess this is just a mystery that could never be solved.
