How Non MAGA Conservatives View Trump

The last time I participated on this board, there abouts, you made a comment something to the effect that I had in the past engaged you numerous times in a manner that was not civil and basically amounted to being an asshole and lacking good faith (summarizing here). I agreed with you and offered an apology. I did do that. Your first interaction today gave me no sense that you were interested in anything constructive. You used to be more open to discussions outside of the board norm but seemingly have lost that.
My first interaction on this thread was a pointed rebuke of the article you posted. It showed that I had read the article you posted.
That you don’t find that constructive is because you are very sensitive and don’t like criticism to your worldview.

They told us Democrats would turn America into a show-your-papers society.

They told us Democrats would strip away the Second Amendment.

They told us Democrats would jail us for what we say.

They told us Democrats would drag us into more foreign wars.

They told us Democrats would cover up a child sex trafficking ring.

And then Republicans took power and decided to do all of it themselves.

Why do you limit American culture? Why is homogeneity the ideal? It’s not the ideal. It has never been the ideal in America.

Seriously, you did not address my point.
You commented but didn't answer my question so I asked it again. You called assimilation bullshit so I'm trying to understand what you disagree with. Again, are you OK with pockets of different groups immigrating but not assimilating?

Not at all. You think I don't expect criticism or disagreement on this board? What you claim as sensitive is a lack of desire to trade insults. Either you can discuss as you would someone face to face or not. That isn't hard to understand. I'm sincerely interested in where the disagreements are and where commonality lies outside of social media ginned up anger and agitation and sensationalied rhetoric.

My whole thing is, I just wish Trump supporters would stand on business instead of being cowards about it. I don’t understand why it’s so difficult to just say “I support him and his policies, even the ones that directly contradict every conservative value and principle I previously claimed to hold, simply because I like that his policies antagonize, annoy, or otherwise hurt people with whom I have lifestyle or ideological disagreement. I recognize that it makes me a craven hypocrite and a coward, but I don’t care.” It really is not hard to just say that, and I won’t speak for everyone, but I will tell you I would personally have a lot more respect for people who just stand on business and own it. But I suppose that’s too much to ask of people who get their knickers in a knot because people on a politics message board ask tough questions.

I don't understand this idea that the anger and agitation that people feel is somehow a symptom of social media and rhetoric. You do realize that people have a right to be utterly pissed off after evaluating a situation on their own, correct? As to commonality, there is none. The current administration is so much a bridge too far for so many Americans that we will never find common ground ever again. Many of us have warned and told you of this for years, but you refuse to believe that one man can do so much harm. Well, he can, he has, and he will. Donald Trump is the end of the United States of America as you have known it your entire life. You wanted an "enema" apparently and now that you're swimming in a pile of shit, you somehow want to figure out the islands where it doesn't stink. It isn't going to work that way.

Buddy, every single one of us is trying to have that conversation with you. Every single one of us. Every single thing I’ve said to you on this thread I would happily – I mean absolutely positively happily with a shit eating grin – say directly to your face. I assume most others feel the same way. But you are dodging, ducking, deflecting, and then threatening to take your ball and go home instead of answering good faith questions that are asked of you. It’s totally your prerogative, but I wish you would have a little bit more self-respect than that.

Yes. I am. They can hold on to their own culture.
Now address my points.

I’m telling you guys, these dudes – the two on this thread as a perfect example – desperately crave validation and respect from the very people whom they claim to hate, and the fact that they are not getting it here is causing them a whole lot of angst.

This worthless article is the equivalent of the dumb ass in the Ahmaud Arbery murder releasing the video thinking it would help people understand why he and his friends hunted and killed Arbery.

Trump has destroyed the country, but that ok as long as trans people are marginalized and put back in closet.

Great article. I don’t agree with everything in the article but he generally nails it.
So i take it your ok with the Trump gestapo murdering another citizen today as long as DEI is gone and people can be openly racist again.

Everyone that voted for him is responsible for all the ICE murders. YOU voted for this and you're proud of it.

I used to appreciate you and @Callatoroy but no longer. Your votes are responsible for the gestapo murders. When we have our version of the Nuremberg trials, I hope they punish those who voted for this worthless piece of shit too.

On assimilation: this is not a hard question for anyone who has ever heard of "Chinatown." Many major cities have one. They are there because Chinese people didn't necessarily want to give up their language and culture to melt into white bread. And yet, somehow, white people have enjoyed Chinatowns for decades.

In New York City alone, there are something like 100+ different ethnic enclaves. Some of them might be familiar. Next to Chinatown was Little Italy. Astoria in Queens is primarily Greek. Greenbelt is Polish. Boro Park is Orthodox Jewish. El Barrio is Puerto Rican. Jackson Heights is desi. 3rd Ave around 9th street is "Little Tokyo."

In Chicago, different ethnic groups retained their distinct identities for decades after arrival, and to this day there are ethnic clusterings.

There have been many movies about this topic. Big Night is about an Italian family and an Italian neighbor trying to find a way to exist without compromising ideals about food. My Big Fat Greek Wedding is about, yes, Greek people with their own traditions. There was a Vine star named Rudy Mancuso who made a pretty good movie a few years ago -- he's Brazilian and he lives in a Brazilian enclave in New Jersey, Ironbound.

Assimilation has never been an American tradition -- not en masse, anyway. Everyone is free to "assimilate" if they choose. Some Chinese people want to live in Chinatown; others want to move to the burbs next to predominantly white neighbors. Either one is OK. It's not a problem.

He is only talking about capping rates for 1 year. I disagree with J. Dimon that it would be an economic catastrophe. Most of the big banks have interest free transfer programs for given periods of time. 1 year not being unheard of. It would be an instant infusion of disposable income. Granted, the banks would take a hit, but it isn't like they haven't been bailed out before. I think people miss the part of it being for only 1 year. But I agree he is trying to address it.
Hilarious how untethered to a value system this is. If a democratic president said this you would call it the tyranny of communists.

Wait, are you coming here to actually have legitimate discussion or are you coming here to troll people who disagree with you? Best I can tell, everyone here has been polite and respectful and tried to respond to the article you posted in good faith.
That article wasn't in good faith. It's more of the right blaming the left for them having to vote for a piece of shit for president. They could have chosen someone else. I still hadn't voted Democrat in 2015, there were candidates on the right that I would have voted for over Hillary, but once they put that piece of shit on the ticket I was done with that party.

Brought down energy prices?

Electricity rates are coming down?
From Gemini “
Electricity rates in 2025 are experiencing significant increases, with the
average U.S. residential rate sitting around $0.17 per kilowatt-hour (kWh), up from previous years. Residential, commercial, and industrial rates continue to rise due to increased generation, distribution, and transmission costs, with many states seeing hikes above 5-10%. ”

I think more than anything else that has transpired over the last decade or so of MAGA, the fact that every single Republican apparently couldn’t wait to slob the knobs of a bunch of masked government agents executing law-abiding, permitted gun-carrying citizens exercising their constitutional rights to carry and assemble, is the single most shocking. It’s one thing to waffle a bit on policy- everyone changes their minds on policy stuff on occasion- but it’s entirely different to just completely abandon the very basic core tenets and principles on which your entire political ideological identity was founded. The fact that Republicans- Republicans!- are openly cheering masked secret police going door to door and kidnapping people, or executing them in broad daylight in the streets, makes them a hell of a lot closer to Stalinists or Maoists than Reaganists. So sad what the people in this movement have become.

Excellent post.

His policies caused the inflation. Biden was warned not to overspend by passing all those trillion dollar bills bloated with green and DEI pork.
This is factually false. The inflation was primarily driven by supply shocks, and then demand supply mismatch. It was not Biden's policies. Some people argue for a little bit of an effect but the reality was that inflation went up everywhere, more or less regardless of monetary or fiscal policy.

1/3rd? Where did that number come from? Many parallels to Kirk’s shooting. Some sick fucks in this country.
They arrested the man that shot Kirk, they are protecting the murder that shot Good and encouraging more murders under the lie that everyone in a car is using it as a weapon.
