Of all of the unimaginably stupid and insidious things that DOGE has done so far, candidly this one scares me the most, as someone who is on a plane almost every single week. I’m surprised that the CEO’s of Delta, American, United, Southwest, etc. aren’t raising hell about this. I’ve already been feeling uneasy about flying ever since the tragedy at DCA a few weeks ago, and that was a perfect storm of a freak accident. What’s it going to be like if and when there are aviation accidents that are directly caused by a shortage of FAA engineers and technicians because Harry Bolz and Big Balls decided to fire everyone with a “probationary” in the FAA database, despite the fact that many of the fired employees have 10, 15, 20+ years of experience and were tagged “probationary” only because of internal transfers.

I also don’t understand why Congress members aren’t raising hell. Most of them fly commercial, too.

Why aren’t the CEO’s raising hell about this?

Good question. I’d be curious to know. I’m not trying to go for alarmism or hysterics or anything- just genuinely trying to understand whether or not this is something we need to be legitimately worried about, or if it’s much ado about nothing. I’d certainly prefer it to be the latter.

I wish I could answer your question, but I have no idea.

My intuition is that this will be like when Musk laid everyone off at twitter. The system sort of managed to remain operational, but it just became shittier and shittier. Extending the analogy to the FAA, we probably wouldn't see the impact of this for at least a couple of years down the road. In other words, too far away for the GOP Congress to even care about.

Everyone is scared. And feeling powerless. This is what happens when a country transitions to authoritarianism.

Super's last comment probably point on, but like he said, I have no idea.

The dummies wanted more Trump. So, they'll get more Trump.

And we'll all have to figure it out.

Glad prices going down. Lol.

I agree that they are playing with fire.

What gets me is that these idiots didn’t seem to even understand what probation means in the federal government.

Guess that is not a surprise considering they accidentally fired people responsible for maintaining nuclear weapons.
Good to see you, Sooner! How are you doing? How's your son doing?

My son is ok. I mean it is the same but he is watching videos on his iPad and laughing so that is good.

I am not in a good place today. I am just filled with anger about what is going on. I really don’t think my son will have a place in school next year and if that happens I will end up in jail.

Maybe I need to stop imaging scenarios that may or may not happen. I will probably be better tomorrow.

You asking actually means more to me than you can imagine. I actually needed that. Thank you.

Oh goodness. Flights are unsafe now because of DOGE?
Not something that Democrats will do, because they have ethics, but we've had more plane crashes in the past month than we've had in years.

If this was a Democratic administration, Republicans would be on Fox News constantly, talking about how Democrats are killing us all and making the skies unsafe.

In truth, conservatives make everything awful. And get more of us killed than otherwise. But they at least know how to sell a "story," much like their god, Trump.

Democrats will never get into the game of lying outright to the people, like conservatives do. And that will be our undoing.

Democrats don't even have to lie, really. Just state facts and hit it over and over and over and over. But they won't do so. Because, as conservatives rightly stat: they're "pussies."

You're a great father! I can't imagine what you do. You're a good man! We need people like you, not only for your son but that so the rest of us can still believe. So we can still believe in good. Hang in there.

I don't know if this will help, but my wife always told me about this special place she visited while touring Europe years ago. She lived with a chef there, out on a rural farm. She said that he told her you cannot concern yourself with what goes on beyond you. Things you can't control. Instead, create your own little world. And cultivate it. Cultivate it well.

I'm positive he was rifting on Voltaire, but that doesn't matter. Point is: we all have our own, little worlds. Let's cultivate them the best we can.

I mean, that's quite literally the question I'm asking in the OP. Do you think that haphazardly firing the technicians, engineers, and mechanics who make aviation the safest mode of transportation- when there is already a serious shortage of personnel and an insufficient recruiting pipeline- will somehow *not* make air travel less safe? If so, why not?

I’m more worried about technicians and other support personnel quiet quitting and while looking for work from home gigs

Anyone with a brain knows the DC crash didn’t have anything to do with Democrats/Republicans.

I have no clue if DOGE will be a net positive or negative. I’d guess negative because Trump and Musk aren’t the most trustworthy folks. With that said, I doubt it’s going to make flights more unsafe. That’s a bridge too far.

Lol. That’s some of the more bizarre logic I’ve ever seen on this board. It’s a “bridge too far” to ponder the probability that firing hundreds of experienced engineers and technicians who operate our ATC infrastructure will make flying in the U.S. less safe? That’s your contention?

I'm not sure why it's a bridge too far when the result is very quickly that already understaffed ATC is even moreso.

I'm sure they hope for the lagging effects so they can blame the next administration. We already know the cult doesn't understand that things lag.

And this is an area that doesn't fall into drump's narrative about overstaffed and inefficient. They are understaffed and from what I've read the positions are vigorously vetted and trained.
