Aside from CalStanSMUVCU this year, what were the most egregious losses we’ve suffered under Hubert the previous 4 seasons?
I would say the Alabama loss 2 years ago could be one. RJ 0-9

That one hurt, but Bama was a really good team.

The loss to Pitt at home in 23 stands out to me. They were playing for their lives and laid a giant egg in that one.

UNC is a better job than MSU. Kentucky and UNC would attract different types of coaches. Kansas is the only real competition.

I also find it hilarious that people think Brad Stevens would leave the Celtics front office to be the UNC head coach.
To go coach ANYWHERE in college.
It had nothing to do with interviewing candidates.
The plan was to max out coach Gut's state retirement and then pass the torch to Roy. Unfortunately Roy didn't accept the torch
The back up was Larry Brown but our AD nixed that plan
And then another coach we reached out to was Rick Majerus

So then we went to hire Doh who had success at ND and did have initial success at UNC but his arrogant personality did him in.
Guthridges state pension was a consideration? My my, different times.

None of the 3 losses to Alabama were what I would consider to be especially egregious, but I think each of them were pretty damaging long term for Hubert in their own way. Same with the blown title game against Kansas (obviously), and the loss to State in the ACCT title game. The latter might be the worst loss of his tenure for me lol.

As far as just flat out dismal performances, we had some rough ones in 2021-2022 before the end of the season. Got thumped good by Purdue, Tennessee, and Kentucky and didn’t look like we even belonged on the same court as Dook in the first matchup that year (fortunately the next two games against them erased that one from everyone’s memory).

I wonder if they're trying to nail down his replacement first before letting him go, or possibly they're having trouble finding a top-quality replacement willing to take the job. The longer this goes the worse it looks, and it's unfair to Davis to keep him hanging, imo. Of course I guess he could be fighting his dismissal, but I rather doubt it.

Carolina has been far better over the past 5 years than Kentucky. They missed the tourny with a losing record (9-16) the year after covid, lost in the first round twice and the second round twice. Their crowing achievement in the past 5 years is a Sweet 16 appearance. We've got one of those and, oh yeah, a finals appearance was well. That alone would boost us well above UK in terms of short term achievement. Now then, clearly we have not been a top 5 program over that period, but we've been well ahead of UK. For JW to point out our fallen status over the past short term while still polishing UK's underserving knob is either idiocy or deliberately twisting the knife. I tend to think the latter...
But at the same time he acts like a dyed in the wool Tar Heel when gameday is at the Dome. I had a surreal hour long conversation with Jason and his dad at Duke hospital the day yall crushed us in Cameron in K’s last game there.

First off their father/son dynamic was fascinatingly chummy with tons of ribbing back and forth. I mentioned a few deep dive plays he’d made at Duke that he remembered with a smile. Talked about him vs. Hurley. K’s career, his relationship with K but also with Roy. Like I said, it was a fan’s surreal dream conversation and the whole thing took place 3 hours before tip.

I got the feeling he’s a pretty smart guy that lacks the instinct and timing of properly dropping controversial opinions. That shit about possibly portaling to Chapel Hill was just….fucking batshit stupid.

Could also be they have come to an agreement and don’t need to have player meetings with no HC.

Kinda doubt it’s because they’re struggling to find a replacement. Even if that search goes well it could still take a while.

I’m also almost certain that Hubert knows the deal, but I do agree that it would be nice if they just went ahead and ripped the bandaid off.

I imagine that it was HD who cancelled/postponed these meetings.

I remember him from years ago. It was clear he had some serious connections but there were a few times he was bad wrong.
Agreed, there were those times where he was way off, but, he definitely had some inside info and what he offered up came to fruition.
When Butter's dad (Tiger something) offered up some info he was a big insight as well.

This may have been mentioned, but just realized 2026-27 will likely be the first time in almost 70 years UNC won’t have Dean himself, a former assistant, or former player coaching the Heels. Kinda crazy.

I wish Hubert would tell UNC to pay him what he is owed, give 'em the finger and fucking leave. He is a nice person and doesn't deserve this BS.
so he failed in his job that he was given an opportunity for because of Weed he did as a player and his relationship with Roy.

He was given a lot of rope and paid millions of dollars... despite not being in demand anywhere else.

You think he should be mad about that?
