Serious question. If we find out several players had flu or whatever, does that matter? Caleb sat 6 mins in FH. Trimble and Dixon 1-13. I mean, does that not make you wonder? It does me. If Caleb wasn't feeling gassed or whatever why would Hubert sit him 6 mins in FH? He was credited with 40 mins against dook. He did leave twice for a few secs.
I get what you're saying. The thing is though, this is how this team has performed for the majority of the season. Outside of the 2nd half against KU, 2nd half against UVA, 2nd half against Duke, and the first 30 minutes against Cuse, what other games/halves has this team performed anywhere close to their potential? For a top 3-5 roster cost, filled with this much talent, they've underperformed a lot this season.

HD said in the press conference that Caleb wasn't even injured. So take that as you may...

I mean, I think it is utter BS but that's what was basically said. I don't think we'll hear word 1 about illness if that was the case

---

"What was the situation with his left hand?"
"There was no situation"
"It was heavily taped. Did that effect his ability when he came back?"
"Not to my knowledge"

Good wins against Kansas. Virginia and Duke. Bad losses against Cal, Stanford and SMU. I wouldn't say Miami is a bad loss, but they are unranked, and the way Carolina played was bad. Really can't afford another loss outside of Duke, Clemson and Louisville. If they don't win at least 2 of those and lose to anyone else outside of those 3 it looks like another mediocre seed in the tournament.

We have had spurts of consistency.

I'm ready to move on from Hubert, season 5 and we're currently 7th in the ACC with the most expensive or 2nd most expensive roster in the league. Constantly plagued with bad starts, bad defensive philosophy, and poor execution throughout. As a program, we can do better. I'll root like hell for us to win every game the rest of the season but if we sputter to the finish, despite having a generational talent on the roster, I hope the UNC admin will look for a replacement. I don't think we should make excuses for the mediocrity any longer.

Like I said earlier, the word I’m hearing from someone who knows someone, Coach HD is as good as gone, and the new arena will break ground sooner than later.

I don’t agree with either take, but I’m a Homer. Just restating what I’ve heard.

If it were easy, any one of us could do it - HD's problem is he is the one that has to do it.

I guess look at it this way you know how they say "make sure that the game isn't close enough where a bad call matters..." I believe Hubert's tenure is at the point where bad calls (hangover games etc) are going to start to matter.

I am as neutral as one can be and a firm believer of things usually take care of themselves, but to me it just seems like he is running out of wiggle room. You make sure you win a Miami game, no matter the circumstances, so you don't have to pull off a sweep of Duke. Now he needs to pull off a sweep.

And I agree the game has changed. I am not sure I could name a single coach I think that will consistently win this version of college basketball, but that won't matter as long as this fanbase can remember the old era. Hubert has the weight of history on him at the moment, and that is heavy as hell. It's not fair, but it is reality. It's going to take years of NIL and transfer portal etc to settle out till fan patience properly adjusts to the game.
Yeah, I mean there just aren't that many coaches who have the ability to influence those things in a way that consistently turns losses into wins.

If they move on from Hubert there's certainly no guarantee that UNC will land one of them.

The problem isn't just this game, it's losing to SMU/Stanford/Cal that makes this game a problem. When you lose to multiple inferior opponents it makes every game critical.

I do think we need to be realistic about what this coaching staff is capable of, they've shown us repeatedly. I expect we'll finish the season losing 4 of our last 7, will lose in the 2nd round of the ACC, and then the 1st or 2nd round of the NCAA as a 7 or 8 seed. If that does happen does that warrant another season?

We'll just have to sit back and see what happens, reassess when we have more information.

Despite our recent streak of mediocrity we are still one of the most desirable jobs in college bball. We are able to provide a coach with more resources than 95% of jobs out there. We may not land the next Roy or Dean but it's very very likely we'll land someone who will do a better job than Hubert.
