Miami is just the kind of team that we will now have to face as a 4-5 seed that on any given night will knock us out of the tournament. Caleb is a fantastic player, but he is young and not fully developed physically so you will see plenty of teams try and play him physically and bash him around like Miami did (and not get called for it). The team looked unprepared for the physicality of the game and I think that we are going to see more of that going forward. I just didn't like what I saw, which was an early exit from the tournament kind of feeling.

The coaching decisions baffle me. In no universe should Evans get more minutes that Luka but that was the case.

I have seen nothing in his personality that would lend us to believe this

Also consider the money involved. He's got 4 years remaining on his contract, he's not going to leave 5 million on the table to be a good guy. They are going to have to fire him and it's going to splinter the family even more than this arena debacle has.

I can definitely understand folks' frustration, and we definitely will need to do a holistic evaluation of the program once the season has concluded. I do think that losses to ALL of SMU, Stanford, Cal, and Miami shouldn't have happened but I also think that the ACC is just incredibly tough this year with few exceptions, and road games in the league are landmines. We should probably have won at least 2 of those 4 games, so I do understand the frustration, but it's not like we're losing to Pitt or Boston College- two of the truly dreadful teams in the league.

As far as Hubert, at least from my vantage point, I do think that beating Kansas, Virginia, and Duke (and to maybe a slightly lesser extent, the win at Kentucky) indicates an ability to coach and succeed at the highest level of college basketball. None of those were fluky wins- not even the one in which we won after trailing for 39:59.06. Kansas is a really damn good team, and so is Virginia. Kentucky is very solid, and Rupp is a very tough place to win (ask our 2012 team).

I say all of the above to say that unless the bottom totally falls out the rest of the way, it's hard for me to see justification in moving on from Hubert Davis after this season, especially with the way recruiting has been going lately. This team currently has a very solid resume overall- yes it has some warts on it but it has 3-4 really strong wins on it, as well, with additional opportunities in the coming weeks to add to that total. We're likely going to finish the regular season around 24-7 (12-6 ACC) which I would think should garner us somewhere in the 4-6 seed range in the NCAAT. We'll have a good chance to make the second weekend of the tournament, at which point it mostly becomes a crapshoot for everyone. Lots of ball left to play.

That has been the gameplan vs UNC all season from the teams who are capable of it

Not even mad at the Evans minutes. First game he's played well in what feels like forever

Only 11 mins for Boga though is strange. Especially when they had no offense late

The games against the mid teams matter too. Recent history tells us that we will lose at least one, and probably at least two, games that we don't think we should the rest of the way.

To end 24-7 we'd need to finish out 5-2. Look at our remaining schedule, that ain't happening.

I hear ya, but it's not out of the realm of possibility. If we go ahead and grant the loss at Duke, I think it's relatively easy to see us losing one game among the NC State/Louisville/Clemson trio but with two of those three at home, it's also relatively easy to see us winning 2 of those 3. We've got absolutely no business losing to Pitt or Virginia Tech at home, and if we do, I'll need to re-evaluate my whole stance above about Hubert.

Totally fair points. That would be problematic, I definitely acknowledge. We cannot lose to Pitt or VT in Chapel Hill, and losing at Syracuse would also be a bad result when combined with having already lost at Cal and Stanford.

Maybe not but also would not be surprising if they do. They will be the favorite to win 5 of those

Unless Caleb is hurt, nothing about last night really changes their chances of finishing strong

We will be underdogs against Duke and NCSU. We'll be within 1-3 points vs. Louisville, Clemson, and maybe even @ Syracuse. Only games I feel good about are VT and Pitt at home.

I think it comes to certain matchups and making adjustments based on the matchups they have for each game. I don't feel Hubert does a good job consistently of having a gameplan coming into games based on matchups and making adjustments during the game when needed on a consistent basis. They always look like they struggle against a zone. I'm not sure why teams that they should beat don't try it more. They more often than not have slow starts to games. The defense is inconsistent and all over the place. Some games it looks great, and others it looks awful, like last night. Often when they have a good lead they will have a stretch where they don't score, and for some reason Caleb and Henri don't get the ball during these stretches. There are still some odd rotations and lineup combos at times.

This factoid is constantly getting spammed on IC, but its germane:

"Hubert is 19-36 in Q1 games."

This is simply not acceptable at UNC, we've given him a long enough run way to prove himself. Despite his genuine efforts, he's failed, it's time to move on.

They probably need to win at least two against State, Louisville, Clemson and Duke, and beat Syracuse, Pitt and VT to get a decent seed. If they lose 3 of 4 against State, Louisville, Clemson and Duke, or somehow lose to either Syracuse, Pitt or VT and then a couple against the other teams, they are probably going to be a 6 or 7 seed, depending on how many they do lose.

We are undefeated at home so the remainder of our schedule looks promising with 4 home games and rival away games with dook** and ncst... and the cuse

I would gladly trade losses to Pitt and VT for wins over dook** and ncst

Whatever our irrelevant won-loss record will be, I'm just hoping our next few game possession to possession metrics will get us into the NCAAT 🙏
