What BYU UNC game? The scrimmage? It's all well and good that you thought Young was at least as good a coach as Hubert, but you're making my point for me. He would not be a serious candidate in any universe.

UNC needs a good young coach that is capable of attracting top portal and NBA talent. Kevin Young fits that mold. It would be a plus if that person has not been accused of Title IX violations, a la Todd Golden.

The BYU game was not played as if it were an exhibition. Hubert had our stars playing 35 minutes (although we were still in the "see how many fouls James Brown can collect in 5 minutes" stage of the season).

If you attack every no-name coach as too inexperienced, and every experienced coach as too unattainable, and then use age, personality and/or Title IX as a way to exclude the rest, of course there is no coach we could hire to replace Hubert.

Did I do that? I thought I said Painter, May, etc. would probably be good hires. In addition, there might be other accomplished coaches whose teams are not currently in the Top 25 for one reason or another.

The problem with Kevin Young isn't that he's no-name. It's that he's literally in his second season as a head coach and has not demonstrated any particular success. Which isn't fair to hold against him, given that it's his second season, but is definitely not a selling point.

As for Steele, he has had one successful year in 8. He's been fired once already. This is an excellent candidate? He would be excellent for State.

Tell me how many times a coach has taken over a program just before an NCAA tournament and won it all? Steve Fisher did it. Then he proceeded to squander more talent than perhaps any coach in history.

Did you know Tony Delk once scored 53 points in an NBA game? Tony Delk! Of course, that was his only game with more than 30 points. One season in 10 did he start even half his team's games, and after that season they unloaded him.

By your logic, teams should have been lining up to trade for Tony Delk.

I'd say he is a solid candidate, not excellent (so I guess 13 excellent candidates was a bit of an overstatement).

His four years at Xavier were mid, but he has completely turned around the Miami of Ohio program in four years. That program had decades of losing before he was hired. Last year he got them to 25-9, their best record since the Wally Szczerbiak years in the 90s. This year he has them undefeated and in the top 25. At freaking Miami of Ohio. If we don't hire him he will have the pick of the litter opportunities in the off season.

He is not an overnight sensation. His Miami of Ohio project has taken four years and he has really built something there. Do you think Hubert could have accomplished that at Miami of Ohio?

It is Miami of freaking Ohio.

83 in Kenpom is the impossible dream for that school. 146 is likely the highest that school has been in decades.

Again, do you think Hubert could have produced that kind of result at Miami of freaking Ohio?

I agree that UNC needs a good young coach which is why I was hoping we would hire Wes Miller to replace Roy.

He took over a very troubled Cincy program in 2022 and has had a 60% winning record in the Big 12 conference. At this point he may be on the hot seat even though Cincy has had a mediocre record years before.

In his seasons at Cincy coaching in a tough conference at a mediocre program with mediocre talent he has been pretty competitive. I would have enjoyed seeing how he might have done as the coach of a blueblood program with superior talent.

So I would include Wes( 43 yo ) as a coach to be included on your excellent coaches list.
 
Brutal news for Caleb and the team.

Now we REALLY are going to regret dropping all 4 to SMU/Cal/Stanford/Miami...because the amount of losses on our upcoming schedule just went way up.
