What BYU UNC game? The scrimmage? It's all well and good that you thought Young was at least as good a coach as Hubert, but you're making my point for me. He would not be a serious candidate in any universe.I think Kevin Young is an excellent coach. This particular BYU team is going through a rough patch, but I'd hate to see how we would perform with a Big 12 schedule. I went to the BYU-UNC game in Utah and at no point during that game, up through and including the last play for Trimble, did I think we had a coaching advantage.
I am not in the fire Hubert crowd. I have consistently said that no decision should be made until the season is over.
But 24-0 at Miami of Ohio gets you on the list.
UNC needs a good young coach that is capable of attracting top portal and NBA talent. Kevin Young fits that mold. It would be a plus if that person has not been accused of Title IX violations, a la Todd Golden. What BYU UNC game? The scrimmage? He has Miami of Ohio talent. Tell me how many other times Miami of Ohio has gone 24-0 in its history? Not with that schedule
Did I do that? I thought I said Painter, May, etc. would probably be good hires. In addition, there might be other accomplished coaches whose teams are not currently in the Top 25 for one reason or another. If you attack every no-name coach as too inexperienced, and every experienced coach as too old, and then use age, personality and/or Title IX as a way to exclude the rest, of course there is no coach we could hire to replace Hubert.
Tell me how many times a coach has taken over a program just before an NCAA tournament and won it all? Steve Fisher did it. Then he proceeded to squander more talent than perhaps any coach in history. He has Miami of Ohio talent. Tell me how many other times Miami of Ohio has gone 24-0 in its history?
I'd say he is a solid candidate, not excellent (so I guess 13 excellent candidates was a bit of an overstatement).Did I do that? I thought I said Painter, May, etc. would probably be good hires. The problem with Kevin Young isn't that he's no-name. It's that he's literally in his second season as a head coach and has not demonstrated any particular success. Which isn't fair to hold against him, given that it's his second season, but is definitely not a selling point.
As for Steele, he has had one successful year in 8. He's been fired once already. This is an excellent candidate? He would be excellent for State.
He is not an overnight sensation. His Miami of Ohio project has taken four years and he has really built something there. Do you think Hubert could have accomplished that at Miami of Ohio?Tell me how many times a coach has taken over a program just before an NCAA tournament and won it all? Steve Fisher did it. Then he proceeded to squander more talent than perhaps any coach in history.
Did you know Tony Delk once scored 53 points in an NBA game? Tony Delk! Of course, that was his only game with more than 30 points. One season in 10 did he start even half his team's games, and after that season they unloaded him.
By your logic, teams should have been lining up to trade for Tony Delk.
Is that so? Last year they were #146 in Kenpom. This year they are #83.He is not an overnight sensation. His Miami of Ohio project has taken four years and he has really built something there.
It is Miami of freaking Ohio.Is that so? Last year they were #146 in Kenpom. This year they are #83.
You are in danger of joining the Ram/Calla club of "very easy dates."
Here is Miami of Ohio's rank for every year of the KP metrics...It is Miami of freaking Ohio.
83 in Kenpom is the impossible dream for that school. 146 is likely the highest that school has been in decades.
Impressive research Snoop. Here is Miami of Ohio's rank for every year of the KP metrics...

I agree that UNC needs a good young coach which is why I was hoping we would hire Wes Miller to replace Roy.UNC needs a good young coach that is capable of attracting top portal and NBA talent. Kevin Young fits that mold. It would be a plus if that person has not been accused of Title IX violations, a la Todd Golden.
The BYU game was not played as if it were an exhibition. Hubert had our stars playing 35 minutes (although we were still in the "see how many fouls James Brown can collect in 5 minutes" stage of the season).
If you attack every no-name coach as too inexperienced, and every experienced coach as too unattainable, and then use age, personality and/or Title IX as a way to exclude the rest, of course there is no coach we could hire to replace Hubert.
Ugh. I wonder how long he will be out for.Fuuuuuuuuck. IC reporting that Caleb Wilson has a fractured wrist.
Probably the season.Ugh. I wonder how long he will be out for.
