Exactly, from everything I've read the coaching staff didn't fight to keep Cadeau. If you make the choice to part ways you have to do better with the replacement.I think we could have kept one for 2 million...
Fully agree with the overall sentiment. His quote when he was originally hired about how you had to play at UNC to coach there or whatever was a major red flag from the jump.
That said, I don’t think he ever had the option to retain Robinson even if he had wanted to. Pretty sure I remember seeing that Robinson was
I don't recall that. I thought Robinson was disappointed at not being retained.miffed at not getting the head job himself and wasn’t interested in sticking around for a subordinate role under another coach.
I'd say survive and advance. It's March. Why does what I think about Wilson playing matter, it wasn't a possibility.
And no, had they won last night by one of two points, for this discussion winning wouldn't have been the final answer. Had they held on, there would still be questions.
You wouldn't have asked what happened if we had won by one point considering the 19 point lead?
He certainly didn’t resign. It was Hubert’s decision.I don't recall that. I thought Robinson was disappointed at not being retained.
There was also talk that Trimble wasn't going to play with EC. Was it one or the other?Exactly, from everything I've read the coaching staff didn't fight to keep Cadeau. If you make the choice to pay ways you have to do better with the replacement.
Roy largely did what Dean did and named his successor. Coach Rob simply wasn't the successor named.Do you think Roy didn’t want to do what Dean did, giving the job to Gut? Because giving the job to Rob would be the same sort of deal…
My memory is that Coach Rob was fairly upset at not being considered for the HC role and wasn't interested in staying. He certainly didn’t resign. It was Hubert’s decision.
Such a juvenile response.
I don't imagine people would have been thrilled with a Steve Robinson hiring.Roy largely did what Dean did and named his successor. Coach Rob simply wasn't the successor named.
This was disappointing, especially considering where Cadeau is and the many misses in the portal.Luka sucked and his low IQ was infuriating, but it’s hard to believe just how bad Evans was. Kid had no business being on the court and couldn’t wait to get rid of the ball anytime it found him. The fear was all over his face. What a disaster, and an expensive one.
Nothing would surprise me with UNC athletics but I actually do think the way the loss happened and the national backlash to it is so severe that their hand has been forced.Even though I’m now firmly and irrevocably on the side of “it’s time to make a change at the head coaching position” I have no faith whatsoever that the PTBs at UNC will actually make that move yet, so hopefully there is at least an ultimatum that there must be changes on the assistant coaching staff to bring in outside perspective and experience. The obsessively insular nature of this program is going to be its unraveling.
I probably wouldn’t have been thrilled, but I thought if Roy was replaced with an internal candidate it would be Robinson. His resume was far better than first time head coach Hubert Davis. At his age he could have served as a bridge to the next long term head coach while keeping things moving forward.I don't imagine people would have been thrilled with a Steve Robinson hiring.
A lot people were excited by it. But definitely not all. The players definitely were.I probably wouldn’t have been thrilled, but I thought if Roy was replaced with an internal candidate it would be Robinson. Were people thrilled by Hubert Davis hiring? I don’t remember a lot of excitement around the hire, but I’m old and forgetful. I do know I thought it was a mistake from the get go.
I had the exact same thoughts by the 5min mark of the 2nd half: HD will be coming back; Turner's had a full year on the job and can better address the portal this off season; hope HD can pull it all together next season with portal additions, returning players and 2 5* recruits.I think it's hard to overstate how big last night's debacle is.
If you had asked me at 6:49p yesterday, I would have said that I thought HD would be back next season, albeit under a greater "win or else" mandate than this year.
I now don't see much way that he can be the coach next year.
The game was everything that HD's critics complain about, on the biggest stage, in a magnified form. It's like it was custom-made to point out why his detractors are ready to move on.
It's a stunning, stunning outcome for a single game.
Robinson was 97-115 as a HC.I probably wouldn’t have been thrilled, but I thought if Roy was replaced with an internal candidate it would be Robinson. I was concerned about experience but okay with the hire because I trusted Roy’s judgement and hoped sitting beside Roy for years would impart some skills that HD never had an opportunity to develop and demonstrate on his own as a head coach. And, despite not being an alum, an employee of UNC or ever having lived in NC, I grew up watching and admiring Dean Smith and the tradition of success and character UNC represented. I wanted to see the direct lineage to Smith (and Naismith) maintained for purely romantic reasons. Sadly, all of college sports has devolved into an impure, cynical, transactional beast that renders most all of that history a quaint, rapidly fading memory.I probably wouldn’t have been thrilled, but I thought if Roy was replaced with an internal candidate it would be Robinson. UNC deserves it because UNC has earned it. UNC and the Carolina fanbase have done their jobs. They have provided the facilities, the resources, the history, the brand recognition, and the patience. The coaching staff has not. That's my opinion.Do you mean 7 seasons?
I don't think UNC deserves anything though. You have to earn it every time.
