"The tenor at North Carolina right now is that there will be a new coaching staff there next season. The entire basketball world, meanwhile is transfixed on Chapel Hill. This is arguably the best job in the entire sport. If Davis does move on from Carolina, expect UNC to target Hall of Fame coaches and national championship coaches who could well be playing in this Final Four.

This job would echo through every corner of this NCAA tournament and really throughout the entire sport."

Hold me.

I know people have their opinions about IC but it’s impressive that there reporters are always so on top of this stuff. Most of the country is probably going to be stunned, meanwhile all of the fans with access to that site have known the news days in advance like an open secret lol.
I don't think most folks will be stunned, as ESPN and other mainstream sites are reporting on it, as well.

I think where IC can truly shine is reporting around the next hire.

I take no pleasure from it. But I also accept it to be reality.

Join us in reality.
Could’ve fooled me. Seems like you’re taking a lot of pleasure kicking HD and his supporters while they’re down. And your lackey snoop.

It reflects well on you guys! Roy and Dean would be proud 👍

Recognizing you have a problem is the first step to fixing a problem. Accepting things as they are is not cruelty. It is necessary.

Roy and Dean both annointed their successors, to the overall detriment of the program. Those successors were not up to the task. It took a concerted effort by the fan base and administration to address it last time. As it will this time.

I get that you're hurting. We all are. But the only way out is through.

You’re not hurting, you’re rejoicing and gloating. Over the failures of a man who is more Tar Heel than you or any of us will ever be.

You might do better to keep some perspective, and a tiny bit of humility above all.

In fairness, we had a pretty good 3 years under Gut, the (IMO) worst loss in UNC history notwithstanding. Of course, bringing Roy back instead of installing Gut might've led to a better long term result, i.e., no Doh fiasco..

Maybe you can show me where I've rejoiced or gloated. The board has a robust search function.

At least you've moved from denial to anger. Keep working through it.

That's exactly my take on the situation.

I think we'd have been perfectly fine if Coach Gut had stuck to the original 1-year timeline. Hanging around for 3 years instead really threw the plan and the entire transition process into real disarray.

You’ve shown your ass. But I’ll bet you’ll be a little more humble about it now. And that’s a win for everyone, including you.

Since it seems like a change is a certainty now, I hope it goes as smoothly as possible. I’m sure HD will do whatever is best for him, which he should. There is no reason to prioritize loyalty to the Lee Roberts athletic department. Hopefully that coincides with a smooth transition.

I'm hopeful (and, based on who he seems to be as a person, expectant) that once the time arises, HD will do the right thing for the program and help make this as smooth of a transition as he can. I believe he will step down with grace and dignity (via a negotiated buyout) and will say all the right things about coming together for the future of the program.

That has nothing to do with anything about "loyalty to the Lee Roberts athletic department" and everything to do with ensuring that the program that Dean built and Roy carried forward has the best chance of continuing to succeed in the coming years and decades.
