Removing criminals is a popular position, which is undoubtedly why Vance focused on it. Pew Research Center found that 8 in 10 Americans support deporting violent criminals, with 6 in 10 supporting the deportation of nonviolent criminals. A majority also supports the deporting recently arrived immigrants highlighted by Hegseth.
Then support starts to collapse. Only 4 in 10 support deporting parents of children born in America, for example, similar to the percentage that supports deporting immigrants with jobs or who came to the U.S. as children.
This is where Democrats need to focus their energy to win this fight. The categories where most Americans don't believe we should deport. The majority of people, including me, are willing to allow some of those here illegally to stay. If you have kids that are US citizens, if you a DREAMER, if you have kept your nose clean, have been consistently employed, etc, I see no issue with with allowing you to stay.
