This is one of the most shameful periods in US history. That the president is conspiring with a two-bit strongman in an attempt to unconstitutionally remove American citizens and disappear them -- it ranks up there with the internment.

No. Americans. Can. Be. Deported. Among other things, the 8th Amendment forbids it (but there are other relevant statutes and principles).

[Sitting directly across from and apparently addressing Bukele] “Right now, it was a paper work, it was additional paperwork that needed to be done, that’s up to El Salvador if they wanted to return him, that’s up to El Salvador if they want to return him, that’s not up to us. The Supreme Court ruled, President, that IF El Salvador want to return him, this is international matters, foreign affairs, if they wanted to return him, we would facilitate it, meaning provide a plane

Note that the Prime Minister (Stephen Miller) took over the response from Rubio, including claiming “we won a case 9-0 and people like CNN are portraying it as a loss as usual because they want foreign terrorists in the country who kidnap women and children” …

This is disgusting and a disgrace. Trump doesn't even care that the guy was sent there by mistake. No, it shouldn't be up to El Salvador to return him. He should be fighting for an American citizen to be returned that is falsely deported. Trump doesn't give a shit, and just offering a plane as part of facilitating the release is bullshit. I can't believe any American is okay with this. You have to be a total racist to be okay with this. That is the only way anyone can be okay with it. The Supreme Court needs to find him in contempt and he needs to be impeached. He should already be held in contempt for not unfreezing federal funds that the court ruled should be done. Trump has done some awful things, but this and pardoning the Jan 6 thugs is probably the most disgraceful.

Can someone help me out please. From the videos and comments, I'm getting mixed messages. Is the guy in fact a US citizen, or a citizen of El Salvador?

Abrego Garcia is a Citizen of El Salvador. His family immigrated to the USA when he was a teenager (in part, they eventually convinced an immigration judge, to avoid him being forced into a gang). He was arrested in 2019 but during the deportation proceedings, the family convinced the immigration judge that this guy would be tortured or murdered if he returned to El Salvador because his family had defied gangs there when they escaped. So the judge issued an order that gave him protected status and prohibited him from being deported to El Salvador.

Jump ahead to now and the Trump Administration picked him up, told him his protected status was revoked and sent him to detention in Texas, then eventually sent him to CECOT in El Salvador despite the express court order prohibiting that. A DOJ attorney admitted in court that he was sent in error in violation of the protection order. That DOJ attorney was eventually put on leave for admitting that and telling the judge that government official refused to provide more info.

So now, this guy, who wasn’t charged with a crime at the time of his wrongful deportation, is being held in an infamous prison in El Salvador.

He's a native of El Salvador, not a US citizen. But here on a legit work permit, also his wife is a US citizen and his 5 yr child was born in the US, so also a US citizen.
I thought he wasn't on a work permit? I think he's removable, but not to El Salvador.

Well, the withholding order that prevented his deportation to El Salvador. That, in turn, was issued pursuant to several US legal authorities.

And when Stephen Miller says

"Now some have said, well, but he had a thing called a 'withholding order.' A withholding order means you've been ordered deported, but an immigration judge is saying you cannot go back to a particular country. Here's the thing: if you are a member of a foreign terrorist organization, you cannot have a withholding order.""

He is just making things up. The withholding order is an order of the court. It can't be thrown out just because Miller gets a hard-on from torturing people. There is no "terrorist" exception to any of the binding treaties the US has signed, nor to this law:

(3) Restriction on removal to a country where alien's life or freedom would be threatened

(A) In general

Notwithstanding paragraphs (1) and (2), the Attorney General may not remove an alien to a country if the Attorney General decides that the alien's life or freedom would be threatened in that country because of the alien's race, religion, nationality, membership in a particular social group, or political opinion.

The only exception relevant here would be if "(iv) there are reasonable grounds to believe that the alien is a danger to the security of the United States" and that is clearly false. There are no reasonable grounds to believe he is a danger, which is why the withholding order was put in place.
Hes ms 13 a terrorist organization, it doesn't get more dangerous than that

The only place where the US economy crashed under Biden was on Fox News. Experts elsewhere—especially outside of your silly little cult—would suggest that it was humming. But yeah, I'm sure you think it was a crashed economy. It's what all the good little MAGA sheep were told to think.
Voters seemed to agree with me

It's more or less hilarious to see the big bad strongman Trump sitting there with the president of an insignificant country as equals. Notice how the list of leaders who support Trump not only come from evil regimes, but pathetically weak ones? Here's a list of Trump's friends:

Milei in Argentina (worst performing economy in Latin America for a long time, save possibly Bolivia).
Bukele in El Salvador (tiny nation)
Orban in Hungary (the leech of Europe, Hungary produces little of value)
Russia, as we all know.
Kim Jong-Un, the leader of one of the poorest countries in the world (in terms of actual living standards of the people).

Nothing says, "I'm so powerful and strong" like hanging out all the time with a bunch of losers. Literally.
I agree with you, but I told you that this is what he was going to do when you were doubtful. Your only mistake, if any, was assuming that we would get anything approaching logical, rhetorical, or political consistency from Trump on this issue. Anyone with a brain can see that "The US government has an agreement with El Salvador to deport people to a prison there, but it's impossible for anyone to be returned once they go there" makes no goddamn sense, but much of the country in fact doesn't have a brain and Trump is happy to contradict himself over and over - logically, factually, and legally - because his audience doesn't care.
