Trump floats canceling election, dismisses it to avoid 'dictator' label

“… Riffing on tariffs during his speech, he said, "if you have the wrong president, nothing's good."

"We found that out for four years... They had the worst policy and we have to even run against these people," he said.

"I won't say 'cancel the election, they should cancel the election,' because the fake news will say 'he wants the elections canceled, he's a dictator.' They always call me a dictator."

… "You’ve got to win the midterms,” Trump said. “If we don’t win the midterms, it’s just going to be – they’ll find a reason to impeach me.”…”

——
I think impeachment is an attempt to get out the vote in the midterm, but best case, in January 2026, we have multiple instances of Trump publicly fantasizing about cancelling the midterms … who knows what he is saying in private.

Also, I surmise there are many more illegals in Florida than in middle-America Minnesota. So why Minnesota, Oregon, New York... ?
I agree. Any thoughts on who is staffing the hog processing plants near Tar Heel, NC or the chicken/turkey plants near Mt. Olive, NC? Would a working knowledge of Spanish be a useful talent in supervisory positions at those plants?

The president of Oglala Sioux Tribe in South Dakota on Tuesday called for the immediate release of tribal members who were detained at a homeless encampment by Immigration and Customs Enforcement agents in Minnesota last week.

Three of the four Oglala Sioux Tribe members who were arrested in Minneapolis on Friday have been transferred to an ICE facility at Fort Snelling, President Frank Star Comes Out said in a statement released with a memorandum sent to federal immigration authorities.

...

In the memorandum sent to Department of Homeland Security Secretary Kristi Noem, Star Comes Out said the when tribal nation reached out to the agency it was provided with only the first names of the men. Homeland Security refused to release more information, unless the tribe “entered into an immigration agreement with ICE.”

I hate to admit that I agree with him conceptually here.

There's nothing wrong with the concept, but "Abolish ICE" doesn't mean abandon all immigration enforcement. It means the enforcement mechanism is broken beyond repair and needs to be replaced.

I've seen it described this way: If you receive a beautiful dish at a lovely restaurant and there is a giant cockroach in the middle of the food, what do you do? The government wants you to eat the cockroach. ICE reformers want you to eat around the cockroach. Abolish ICE wants you to send the dish back for a new one.

The country has to have an ICE-like agency to perform needed governmental functions around immigration enforcement.

The current iteration of ICE needs to be abolished until something akin to de-nazification can occur, including firing essentially everyone currently a part of the agency.

Then they should say REPLACE ICE, not abolish it (which sounds more like burn the restaurant to the ground in your example).

Even so, it's performative Fetterman on display yet again. He was just waiting to rail, as usual, the latest thing that is SAID by the left that can be viewed as going to far, and will once again amplify that many times above his views on the extremist ACTIONS occurring on the right. Notice how he listed the targeting of migrants last in his list and made no mention of the violent targeting of protesters/others.
