The NRA fought hard against gun destructions after police buybacks. If their only concern was for the profit for gun manufacturers, the destruction of these guns would be supported as they rob demand for newly manufactured guns.

Pretti was shot many more than 3 times. He had 3 in his back and at least 2 more (chest and neck) on his front according to the doctor who assessed him on scene.

It's not their only, just their primary concern these days. The principle that cops can destroy gun regardless of how they are obtained rankled them. That about demand would be true if people mostly owned one gun. That's only a third of gun owners.
