Just saw a video on my TV (vs phone) and slowed down.

It shows Pretti on his hands and knees with a gun around the small of his back. An ICE agent can be seen taking the gun and walking away. Another ICE agent, who JUST watched the other take the gun, then pulls his gun and shoots Pretti in the back.

Straight up execution.

Yes, some voters are manipulated by right-wing media. That’s always been true. That doesn’t mean every slogan or demand is equally risky.

“Defund/abolish the police” was a mistake precisely because police have deep social capital and are widely seen, rightly or wrongly, as a public safety service. ICE doesn’t have that. As I said, ICE is a relatively new, federal interior enforcement agency with little legitimacy and a reputation for abuse. The analogy just doesn’t hold.

IMO, the question isn’t whether the right will try to distort “abolish ICE,” because they’ll distort anything. It’s whether we lose more voters by saying something clearly about an institution people already distrust, or by continuing to hedge and sanitize our own conclusions. From what I’ve seen, the bigger loss comes from the hedging.
Paine is 100% correct here. Abolish ICE is precisely the right tone on these times. Righteous anger is powerful and it needs to be harnessed, not squelched with the usual mealy mouthed triangulated bullshit.

Here's one of many reasons they really shouldn't be treated as LEOs.

Yes, it is standard, customary procedure for law enforcement officers (LEOs) to be immediately removed from field duties—usually placed on paid administrative leave or assigned to desk duty—following a shooting event. This action is not considered a disciplinary suspension or a sign of wrongdoing, but rather a routine part of the investigation process to allow for a thorough review.
Key Aspects of Post-Shooting Procedures:
  • Paid Administrative Leave: Officers are generally placed on paid leave, which allows the department to conduct investigations into the shooting without the officer being on the street.
  • Reasons for Leave:
    • Investigation: Allows time for critical incident reviews, including forensic analysis, by internal affairs or outside agencies (e.g., state police or attorney general).
    • Psychological Well-being: Provides the officer time to process the trauma of the shooting.
    • Public Trust: Prevents the appearance of impropriety while facts are gathered.
  • Return to Duty: After the investigation, if the officer is cleared of wrongdoing and deemed mentally fit, they are allowed to return to work. If the shooting is found to be unjustified, the leave may transition into unpaid suspension or termination.
  • Duration: While some agencies dictate a minimum of a few days to a few weeks, the exact timeframe varies based on the investigation.
What "Administrative Leave" Means:
It is important to note that paid administrative leave is not a vacation. While on leave, the officer is typically required to remain available for interviews, counseling, and investigations, and is often subject to recall, according to sources.

I would love to see the NBA players say they won't play another game until ICE stands down and Noem and the crosseyed FBI director are removed from office.

If the NFL players did that for the super bowl those things would happen by Tuesday.
I disagree.

Trump would revel in the fact that he gets to decide when the NBA/NFL plays again and would hold out until everyone and their mother kissed his ass enough for him to let the games continue.
