Israel strikes Iran in high-stakes retaliation

Israel launched direct strikes against Iran early Saturday, in a high-stakes retaliation to Tehran’s ballistic missile barrage earlier this month. Israel said it hit military targets, which did not include energy infrastructure, according to an Israeli military source.

• Iran has said it is “entitled” to defend itself following the attack, but Iranian media appears to be downplaying the strikes, reporting limited damage at military sites in three provinces. The army said two soldiers were killed.

• A senior US administration official said President Joe Biden encouraged Israel to design its attack against Iran in a way that would deter further escalation. World leaders have been urging the two sides to avoid a wider regional war.

• Meanwhile, Gaza’s health ministry says Israeli forces have detained male staff members during a raid at Kamal Adwan Hospital in the north of the enclave, where the UN human rights chief says Israel is “subjecting an entire population to bombing, siege and risk of starvation.”

Israel obviously decapitated Hezbollah leadership with the pager and walkie talkie attacks. They've produced a limited response to Israeli incursions into Lebanon. At this point, Hamas is basically nothing more than a handful of guys occasionally poking their heads out and sniping. And the Houthis are too far away to be of any real consequence.

All their allies and proxies are severely wounded and/or ineffectual. Iran needs to be thinking about an exit strategy instead of firing some more missiles at shit.

Israeli soccer fans were beaten and injured in violent clashes in Amsterdam overnight, which the Dutch government condemned Friday as antisemitic attacks on Israeli citizens.

Dutch police said they had launched a major investigation into multiple violent incidents following the Europa League soccer game Thursday night between Israel’s Maccabi Tel Aviv and Dutch side Ajax. Police said that so far, “five people have been taken to the hospital and 62 individuals have been arrested.”

Even there they play the victim card. They leave out the part where those hooligans climbed up the walls of a private residence to rip down a Palestinian flag. They were chanting "Death to Arab" and also attacked a taxi driver. They f'ed around and found out

That part has been reported. Sounds like there were a lot of verbal confrontations and the flag was removed. Words and flag removal leading to extreme violence is unfortunate. I think everyone would agree.

MTG is such an ignorant moron.
She posted this yesterday. Now, when I saw the Newsweek heading I thought it had to be photoshopped. No, it is real, just a ridiculous misleading title. Had the dingbat actually read the article, she may have understood thst Hamas is quoted demanding that Trump acknowledge a second sovereign Palestinian state with Jerusalem as it's capital. This is actually a follow up piece from the day before where Hamas demanded Trump stop supporting Israel and stop sending money and supplies. So yeah, if Trump (and Israel) agree to all of that. Hamas is willing to accept those terms.

I’ve seen a lot of talk about Trump’s impact on a ceasefire, but I haven’t seen anything about Trump’s impact on humanitarian aid. Let’s say there’s a ceasefire the moment Trump is inaugurated. What happens then?

He wants to clear out all the Palestinians, either let Israel kill them all or push them to the Sinai in Egypt. Trump, via Kushner, are already planning on investing in beachline resorts in Gaza.

The intersection of soccer hooliganism and Arab-Israeli conflict was not something I was expecting.

It’s good to see some fresh hell once in awhile.

Let’s imagine that the killing stops instantly and no more people are displaced. What then?

I guess I am trying to figure out if help is even possible. There is so much to be done besides getting a ceasefire and I haven’t seen any discussion about it (it could just be my ignorance). If I wanted to help feed people in Gaza during a Trump administration what possible avenues would I have to help?

I don't see him caring. We saw how he (and his minions like Giuliani) feel about Palestinians. He will let Netyanhu starve them all.
