I’ve read a number of questions of why C-130s would be used for a rescue operation of one airman but I don’t know enough to know whether that is a legit question…

The church tried. Part of the reason for the proliferation of Holy Days was to keep Christians from fighting each other on those days. Of course, infidels didn't count. That was a holy duty.
