Definitely have to be cautious with sources for all this and, for instance, limit Clash Report to quick summaries where they are citing other sources or providing verifiable clips.

To me worth knowing what Iranian sources claim even starting from the assumption they are lying.

Unfortunately we also have to be dubious of our own presidential admin claims.

Are you in favor of ceding any level of control of the strait to Iran? Seems if any of that is true and jd said no way and Iran leaves then that is good on jd and bad on Iran. Iran thinking they have any control is bad for the world. That is something we should never budge on. Do you disagree?

1. Control over the strait is not the USA's to give. So with a normal administration, this wouldn't even be an issue. Iran doesn't control it; nobody controls it; it is an international strait for the free passage of all.

2. BUT since Trump cares nothing for international law, why should Iran? After all, Trump started bombing them without provocation and talked about (and likely committed) war crimes. Iran is saying -- well, since you don't care about the rules, neither do we.

3. And this is the sort of downstream effect that blows back from earlier decisions. MAGA probably loves blowing up fishing boats in South America, but that is illegal under international law. And if the US wants others to obey international law, we have to respect it ourselves.

Everything is on Trump.

The best result is that Iran maintains control of the strait for a couple of months, letting tankers pass and charging a fee. Then, I suspect, Iran will gradually let go because they can't actually control the strait long-term. That would be the quickest way to end the whole stupid affair.

We wouldn't have to budge if your boy Trump respected international law. Iran wouldn't be asking, just like it has never asked for this before. But since Trump has decided international law of all types is useless, Iran is going to play that game too.

Trump pulled out of the Iran deal, so that was one treaty violated. He has also violated the Geneva Protocol multiple times and in multiple ways; has run roughshod over the General Agreement on Tariffs and Trade; and has also violated repeatedly the UN Convention Against Torture. Oh, and the treaty that used to be called NAFTA.

So here's an idea. If you want people in the world to follow the rules, then you have to follow the rules yourself.

And THIS is one of the reasons why your bullshit about "close the border" is so harmful. As I have repeatedly explained, Trump's policies are rampant violations of the UN Convention Against Torture and various treaties on the status of refuges (they are also violations of American law). You don't seem to care about that. Well, this is why you should care, and also listen to people who know things.

At this point everyone who loves this country should be pulling for trump to be as successful as possible. Giving Iran any control over the strait would be disastrous for the American economy for as long as they maintained control, long after trump is gone. You would think educated people would understand Iran having any control over oil prices would be horrible for America. Of course, when your tds is stronger than your love for America you are closer to being a radical Islamist than American.
