Go over to the AI thread. An AI company that was working with the military has pulled out over concerns over how, and why, Trump’s administration wants to use their creation. AI leaders are not known for their ethical concerns, particularly ones who work with military operations. Something wicked this way comes.
 
It’s amazing how Republicans can just switch back and forth on issues without any cognitive dissonance. They conveniently forget that they cheered us into war with Iraq and Afghanistan. Then when it went to shit they acted like they weren’t the ones who got us involved and tried to blame the shit on Obama and Biden. Then they act like the anti-war, anti-intervention party only to cheer on more wars in the Middle East because their cult leader tells them to. I guess it’s nice to not have to worry about things like feeling shame.

I’m sitting here typing this response from my home office where I can look over to my left and sitting on top of my bookcase is a triangularly folded American flag in a case. That flag set atop the casket of my then 19-year-old first cousin who is killed in Fallujah. I have it because my aunt and uncle – his parents – could not bear to have it in their house as a reminder. I am adamantly opposed to American politicians on either side of the aisle who keeps sending poor and working class and middle class boys like my cousin to continue to die on foreign soil, fighting foreign conflicts on behalf of other foreign nations and/or their billionaire donors. Guess what- I’ll adamantly oppose the next Democratic president who does it too, with the exact same ferocity.

But to answer your question, yes, George W. Bush made a formal case to Congress and a formal address to the American people before the initiation of the invasion of Iraq.

That wasn’t a military strike. That was an invasion. Big difference. And trump did notify congress. So far, not a single American casualty. You being scared to act doesn’t mean it didn’t need to be done. Obama’s approach failed miserably.

Why do you constantly assign feelings, beliefs, and emotions to other posters? You do it to me all the time, you do it to wmheel frequently, and you’ve done it to others. Please stop it.

I’m not “scared to act.” What I’m “scared” of is the United States setting off a cascade of events in the Middle East that spiral beyond our control that leads to yet another bloody war that spills yet more American lives and treasure. I’m “scared” that this administration never seems to have an actual plan besides “blow up bad guy.” Well, guess what. In this case, “bad guy” apparently has a whole metric fuck ton of “worse guys” behind him. What is our plan for those guys? What is our plan for if our little regime change stunt becomes “even worse regime.” What is our plan for when Iran or their proxies hit one of our carriers and kill American service members? What is our plan for when Iran or their proxies manage to hit Tel Aviv? What’s our plan for when one of Iran’s sleeper cells here in the United States initiate a terrorist attack on American soil? Anyone who isn’t “scared” of any of those happening is a brain-dead troglodyte.

Nothing was done. Trump basically accelerated Khamenei's heart attack or stroke. This has accomplished absolutely nothing except raise oil prices.

What I'm talking about are all of the Trumpers who, when Maduro was captured, came here and took to social media to brag and gloat about what a popular move it was among Venezuelans, and to attack liberals as anti-American Trump haters who wouldn't understand what a brilliant move it was by Trump. No doubt it was popular among most Venezuelans at that moment, but as events showed all the Venezuelans got was pretty much the same government in place and efforts here in the US to deport and drive out the Venezuelans who had moved here to get away from Maduro, but who in many cases had no intention of returning home after having a built a new life here.

I happen to work with a Venezuelan immigrant who is here with his wife and kids on a work visa. He's a great guy, hates Maduro, loves the US, and even admitted to me that he liked Trump in 2024 after all of his tough talk on Maduro. But now he's worried that when his visa expires he and his family will be forced to leave the country, and certainly his views on Trump have changed (I know he's a FAFO case, but he is a nice man and a great family man from what I can see). His brother and sister-in-law were working in the US as teachers and have been forced to leave on short notice, they're moving to Spain if I remember correctly. The bottom line is that seeing Iranians celebrating in the streets is hardly reason for Trumpers to gloat, given what happened in Venezuela. Unless the government actually changes there those celebrations may be short lived.
 
I know I’m preaching to the choir here but the source of my anger at the United States becoming involved in yet another armed conflict in the Middle East is that our whole damn country is literally crumbling around us here at home, and we continue to fall all over ourselves to pump billions upon billions upon billions of dollars into bombing brown people in the desert on the other side of the globe primarily at the behest of Israel. Nobody can afford to buy a home or have children anymore, but we can sure as shit bomb brown people! Nobody can afford groceries anymore or go to the doctor anymore or afford education anymore, but we can sure as shit bomb brown people! We’ve got untold numbers of homeless people in this country, or people who don’t have access to good meals, in the wealthiest country in the history of humanity, but we can share as shit bomb brown people! We don’t have money to be able to provide free breakfast and lunch at school for low income children, but we can share a shit bomb brown people!

Nothing has changed in Venezuela... and American Oil Cos said "No, thank you." Who is going to pay the 100s of billions to bring O&G infrastructure up to speed.
