Trump IMO is far more beholden to rich Gulf States than Israel. He wants to be like their rulers. If that theory is correct, war will be over before end of March. Gulf states are pressing hhim hard to end this.

I'm sure his fellow Republicans who have to worry about reelection this fall are thrilled by all of this. Based on this past week's primaries they're already looking at a very tough political year for Republicans, and now they're stuck defending a war that's already broadly unpopular according to most polls (even among some of their MAGA base) and now the price of gas is shooting up at record speed. Oh, well, too damn bad and FAFO and all of that, Trump culters!

And of course Trump doesn't give a shit about their problems, because he only cares about himself and he has successfully surrounded himself with sycophants and toadies this term who tell him only what he wants to hear and who have isolated him from reality, which is likely how he has spent most of his life.

I think you’re right, generally. Trump, both personally and indirectly through MAGA allies and the Trump administration, has been relying on billions in support for numerous projects from Arab states through what are essentially bribes. They can inflict a lot of pain quickly if things get uncomfortable for them.

OTOH, his ego is ravenous and unrestrained and the rush he’s getting from feeling tough and receiving immediate gratification of his whims may be something that can’t be dialed back.

Fox News is every bit as much of a cult as MAGA.
It always has been. From its founding back in the 90s it was deliberately designed to be a 24/7 GOP propaganda network masquerading as a legit news network. The goal has always been to mold Republican minds and tell them only what they want to hear and to confirm their pre-existing world view and biases, and to keep them in a perpetual state of fear and anger so they'll be sure to vote straight Republican in every election cycle. The fact that the first and longtime managing director of Fox was not a journalist but a GOP public relations operative (Roger Ailes, who worked for Nixon) really says it all about why that network was started.

And yes, Fox is absolutely a cult of its own, especially in rural areas and among older (retired) people with time on their hands. I have relatives who still live in rural NC who watch Fox News & Fox Business (which is just as bad) constantly during the day, and of course they believe everything they hear. I've read articles which note that some older male Fox viewers will deliberately go out of their way to turn as many TV screens in gyms they frequent to Fox News as possible, as if driven by a compulsion. It's actually kind of creepy in some ways. And Fox has succeeded beyond their wildest dreams and brainwashed a whole generation of viewers into blind loyalty and acceptance of a far-right agenda that actually harms most of them.

100%. And I grow chronically weary of constantly having to fight the disinformation with my mostly-Trumper family, but I ruck up and do it anyway because what choice do we have?
