Of course they are. The best possible outcome for Russia is for us to grind down our military, spend an untold fortune, and lower our readiness worldwide.
I tend to think Putin is not particularly focused on US military readiness. He already knows the Us president is on his side. All he needs is a few plausible distractions (Venezuela, Iran), for the American public, to accomplish his goals.

Um, yeah. Considering repercussions of one's actions is usually important. Or, just bomb away and hope for the best? You think like Trump.
And, you know it's short-term? How do you know this?
I'm more making the point that, if you are rushing to see your mother before she passes away, you aren't worrying about the loss of tread on your tires.

You're probably right (that it is a higher figure). Youssef is a reporter for The Atlantic, so the official - likely on background for now, given how the administration feels about unofficial releases of information - probably offered what (s)he felt was a legitimate figure at the current time.
I've heard the more accurate number is $1b every 3 hours.

I would love for someone to plant a story that Iran and Russia are negotiating the transfer of a nuclear weapon from Russia to Iran. And then someone ask Trump about it. His reaction would be interesting.
Actually you may be predicting a fact to be. No doubt N Korea would be happy to oblige. However getting it there could present a problem.

If You are talking about a country that funds terrorism around the world, is clearly dedicated to their nuclear weapons program and killed tens of thousands of protesters, you think you consider a short-term revenue increase for Russia when deciding what action to take?
Sounds like as a better description of Russia than Iran.
