Yeah I really do think that Trump's primary enthusiasm for this war is getting to sit in the "Situation Room" and watch things go boom. He got a taste of it with the Maduro raid and now he wants more.
Trump only cares what his base thinks, and nothing gives his base a chubby more than brown people getting tossed around or, best of all, blown up. From paramilitary forces hauling people off American streets to speedboats being blown up in the Caribbean to Maduro being hauled away to countless bombs dropped on Iran, the pattern is clear. Trump and his base get off on violence.

I can't tell if this is a victory for Israel (the fact that the brutality of the war is giving Houthis a pause) or another sign that the US shouldn't be involved at all (that the "Iran-Axis-of-evil" wasn't that strong, one less POTENTIAL reason to be there).

...three officials, speaking on the condition of anonymity to discuss the sensitive situation, said the second aircraft was also a KC-135.

That outlet also says that the KC-135 in question was one that landed at Israel’s Ben Gurion Airport earlier in the day after declaring an in-flight emergency. Online flight tracking data shows that tanker is a KC-135RT variant, one of a small subset of KC-135Rs that are themselves capable of being refueled in flight. This, in turn, allows them to make use of tanker support themselves to remain on station longer or to conduct longer-distance missions.

I was wondering how two refuelers happened to collide, since not colliding is air-traffic 101 and these planes have proximity alerts and things. Maybe this was one KC-135 trying to fill-up another?

My grandfather was involved in a very close near-miss midair collision in Desert Storm between his plane (radio/reconnaissance) and a tanker. Had horrific PTSD from it. Hope the families of the deceased are able to find peace and the survivors in the other plane get the help they will surely need.

Your grandfather? In Desert Storm?

How old are you?

I know that the math can work, but you have to admit that’s kind of an unexpected timeline.

Wmheel was close! I’m 37. My grandfather was in the reserves and got called up as a 55 year old (or thereabouts). I think he’s 91 now. It’s a very long story- one that he loves to tell at length- but he enlisted and was active duty Navy for the Korean War (didn’t see combat) then went in the Army reserves during college at Auburn and stayed in until Desert Storm. As far as we can tell, he’s the only one to have done that.
