Yeah, I had a feeling the Drone Wars would be a problem. Once the "one and done" air raid was nothing more than Whack-a-Mole, and Trump couldn't find the exit ramp with a flashlight and compass - this was going Charlie Foxtrot quickly.

Now, Iran has suckered the Marines into direct engagement.

And Trump's messaging is back to Americans should make the sacrifice of higher gas prices for an unwanted war. The US "produces more oil" without the inkling that oil is a global commodity. Trump is as clueless about oil and the oil industry (was Venezuela and the "no mas" from Big Oil not a clue?) as he is about how tariffs/duties work.

This is why Trump invariably FAILED at almost all of his branding schemes and his casinos when Chapter 11...and blamed the native/indigenous Americans for his incompetence. He was bailed out again and again by Daddy Fred... and later the Russians.

In 2015, he owed the Russians a cool Billion $+ in loans...because no American bank would bankroll him.

The only reason Trump ran for POTUS in 2015 was to improve his branding and leverage the fake mystique of The Apprentice. It was to make $$ from the suckers & losers in the US. He found a political party STUPID enough to fall for his fake news, bullying, and grifting schemes. Three times.

Ask the Marines themselves. Somehow, Lieutenant General is above Major General.

I Am the Very Model of a Modern Lieutenant-General

I am the very model of a modern Lieutenant-General,
With briefings geopolitical and charts that are infernal;
I quote deterrence doctrine with a confidence paternal,
And sprinkle every conference call with jargon quasi-eternal.

I know the Persian history from Cyrus down to yesterday,
And speak of “force projection” in a manner most professorially;
I map the straits and missile ranges neatly on a slide display,
While analysts debate them all at length and categorically.

I’m very well acquainted, too, with sanctions and diplomacy,
With drones and cyber-warfare and the art of stern hypocrisy;
In short, in matters strategic, fiscal, naval, and aerial,
I am the very model of a modern Lieutenant-General!

I issue memos rapidly on matters confidential,
Explaining why escalation might be “limited” and “potential”;
My PowerPoints are color-coded, tidy and sequential,
Though half the plans rely upon assumptions circumstantial.

When pundits shout of missiles flying somewhere in the distance,
I answer them with acronyms of formidable persistence;
For though I’m versed in doctrine and my language quite imperial,
My maps are often older than my rank’s insignia material.

But still, when asked to summarize each crisis geopolitical,
I speak with great authority in accents quite rhetorical;
For in command of memos, notes, and briefings managerial,
I am the very model of a modern Lieutenant-General!

One of my brothers was Marines/Navy and deployed in Kandahar. The Dirt Navy.

They had khaki Dirt Navy t-shirts made for them. Fortunately, he survived. The next commander - not so much.

Really, I'm posting this for Linda Ronstadt:

Lol. I was just about to suggest asking Gilbert and Sullivan rather than AI.

Good story. I always wondered about the Lieutenant vs Major General rank myself. Maybe AI can tell me.
AI told me that long ago (17-1800s) in the British army, the top general was called Captain General, his assistant was called Lieutenant General, and the man over the troops was called Sergeant Major General. Over time the captain and Sergeant were dropped to leave us where we are today.

Gen. Captain General is an interesting name for a British field officer.
