I find it hard to believe that anyone would actually trust the unsupported word of Donald Trump. His naked word with no consultation with Congress doesn't seem either legally or morally binding to me.

I do feel for them if they were misled by Trump but, bottom line, he had no right and we still have no business getting mixed up in this.
I agee, but he did get us mixed up in this. So, what now?

I don't know other than to go back in time and choose better. I'd feel like we were throwing good money after bad even if we thought we had something to win if it involved feet on the ground. As it stands, does anybody have any idea of what "winning" here even means? Damn a bunch of nation building. Let's do our homework first.

With, zero plan in place for what comes next...yes, I certainly will complain. Doing anything to upset a government without some clear plan to try tl assist afterwards is criminally negligent and invites even worse outcomes.
been thinking that all along. crazy!!

Honestly? Either way the people suffer. Either way it feels like Trump, and America, playing God. But I can't conceive of what "12,000+" protesters killed in a matter of days even looks like, any more than 12 million killed during the Holocaust. And I'd hope that someone would come to our support if the situation were reversed, and promises were made by political leaders of other countries.

I doubt that anything we do would save a single life. It might change who dies. I just don't want it to be our soldiers over there dying for a reason we don't understand, an undefinable goal and no entry or exit strategy.

Just as a matter of principle, special operations groups are great for assault on an objective but suck at holding ground. I don't see how the hell we could put the type of feet on the ground that we'd need that way. That means we can bomb the hell out of things. Sounds like the best thing we could accomplish is bomb the hell out of the infrastructure the country will later need.

I don't like policing the world, but who, beside the US, is going to intervene? The UN? The UN couldn't even definitively condemn October 7.

And if nobody steps in, then how many more protesters will die? I just can't get past the idea that "there but by the grace of God go I." There is always, no matter how faint, the possibility of what is happening to protesters in Iran also happening here. And who will help us, if/when that time comes?
