I don't know other than to go back in time and choose better. I'd feel like we were throwing good money after bad even if we thought we had something to win if it involved feet on the ground. As it stands, does anybody have any idea of what "winning" here even means? Damn a bunch of nation building. Let's do our homework first.
Honestly? Either way the people suffer. Either way it feels like Trump, and America, playing God. But I can't conceive of what "12,000+" protesters killed in a matter of days even looks like, any more than 12 million killed during the Holocaust. And I'd hope that someone would come to our support if the situation were reversed, and promises were made by political leaders of other countries.

I doubt that anything we do would save a single life. It might change who dies. I just don't want it to be our soldiers over there dying for a reason we don't understand, an undefinable goal and no entry or exit strategy.

Just as a matter of principle, special operations groups are great for assault on an objective but suck at holding ground. I don't see how the hell we could put the type of feet on the ground that we'd need that way. That means we can bomb the hell out of things. Sounds like the best thing we could accomplish is bomb the hell out of the infrastructure the country will later need.

And if nobody steps in, then how many more protesters will die? I just can't get past the idea that "there but by the grace of God go I." There is always, no matter how faint, the possibility of what is happening to protesters in Iran also happening here. And who will help us, if/when that time comes?

I've been waiting for almost 15 years now, waking up to see if Khameini has died yet. The dude is harder to kill than a cockroach.

Every Iranian I've ever met is beyond ready for regime change, and to throw the whole "Supreme Leader" thing in the trash. If they can get a pro-western coalition in place - or at least a much less anti-western one - that's going to be huge. Iranians are much, much more our natural allies than gulf oil sheiks.
