But he won’t call it an extension. He’ll say that the talks are going great, they’re begging to make a deal, and we’ve already won. And he’ll leave it at that.

I'd grade that as a loss for me. He will be asked if there is a ceasefire. If we are not bombing Iran, it will be tough for him to say no ceasefire. But that is always a possibility.

My take as an Independent is that right now Ro Khanna is the only Democrat displaying true leadership, courage, and willingness to stand up against the corporate and Billionaire Bros. lobbies...and show some principles.

Most of the rest of the Dems are sitting back or hiding and counting their PAC (including AIPAC) donations...as if they were entitled to win in November...despite not stepping into battle. Mark Warner is a distant 2nd. Schumer and Jeffries are absolutely worthless as leaders.

And, imo, it won't end when Trump leaves office. It's going to take a major effort and many years over several administrations to win back what Trump is losing. Because the simple fact is that after America dumped Trump in 2020 (barely), we were dumb enough to elect him again in 2024 with a popular vote plurality. And even if the Democrats win in 2026 and 2028 and regain control of the government every other nation is going to be thinking "If they were stupid enough to elect Trump twice, they may just elect another MAGA idiot in 2032 or 2036 and this will start all over again." So it's going to be a much harder sell to foreign governments to get them to trust us again for a good while. I don't envy any Democratic POTUS in 2029 trying to convince foreign leaders that MAGA is really finished and won't be back, and so our traditional allies need to trust us again and start working us as they did before.

I agree we'll have to earn back their trust, but as long as we elect someone sane (i.e., a Democrat), I think it will happen more quickly than you're suggesting. I see this kind of like the current stock market -- it's not responding rationally because there's nowhere else for the money to go. Similarly, our traditional allies WANT the United States to resume our historical role as the leader of the free world. It's damn expensive to maintain the most dominant military in the history of the world. They want us to be a rational military power that maintains relative peace across the globe. They want the dollar to be a reliable reserve currency. They want to ally with us rather than with China or Russia.

This is one of the main reasons everything Trump and MAGA has been doing is so infuriating. If you look at the overall geopolitical landscape in 2024, we were set up for enormous, long lasting success as the dominant global superpower, the maintainer of Pax Americana. All we had to do was not fuck up. So what did we do? We fucked up in the most spectacular way imaginable. It will go down in history as one of the all-time great national fuck ups, but I do think it can be reversed, and our allies will do all they can to help us reverse it.

OTOH, it has been reported that he thinks Iran will only “understand” and to wildman threats, so this is how he thinks he can get Iran to the negotiating table.
