“… Resuming delivery of large bombs, meanwhile, is a break with then-President Joe Biden, who halted their delivery in May as part of an effort to keep Israel from launching an all-out assault on the southern Gaza city of Rafah. A month later, Israel did take control of the city, but after the vast majority of the 1 million civilians that had been living or sheltering in Rafah had fled.

… “Civilians have been killed in Gaza as a consequence of those bombs and other ways in which they go after population centers,” Biden told CNN in May when he held up the weapons. “I made it clear that if they go into Rafah ... I’m not supplying the weapons that have been used historically to deal with Rafah, to deal with the cities, that deal with that problem.”

The Biden pause had also held up 1,700 500-pound bombs that had been packaged in the same shipment to Israel, but weeks later those bombs were delivered.

… Negotiations have yet to begin in earnest on the more difficult second phase of the deal that would eventually see the release of all hostages held by Hamas and an enduring halt to the fighting.

If the remaining hostages are not released, the Israeli government has threatened to resume its war against Hamas, which launched a massive assault against Israel on Oct. 7, 2023.“

I always think it is helpful to hear the quote when possible — tone and the hems and haws can be informative as well.

But henceforth I am also trying to be more circumspect about posting clips generally — to not be part of the problem feeding an outrage machine.

He's just openly calling for ethnic cleansing.
Yup, and Kushner has been talking with developers to build beachfront resorts in Gaza for months.
This was Israel’s goal from the start. Demolish and depopulate Gaza to build settlements and access the natural gas underneath it. I’ve been saying this from the start that it was never about eliminating Hamas.

He thinks we're gonna throw up a couple golf courses and a Trump Tower. Palestinians get a reduced cart fee.

ttump could cause mass death and dislocation in many, many ways over the next x years; however, Palestinians had the worst odds, by a magnitude. This has been so obvious, for soooooo long, yet the Biden admin's calculated response got prominently promoted as a reason for punishing Harris'. With ttump's ethic cleaning comment, he's publicly given Bibi justification for just about any action.

Just mind numbing ignorance.
yup. this is why i was and still am endlessly flabbergasted by the whole uncommitted movement.

things were always, always, always going to go the absolute worst way for palestine with trump in power.

Clear it out! Let me build my hotels!

Yep. Thanks Hamas lovers, protestors, young people who did not vote. Good job.

I'd say it was both for Israel and the Trump grift machine. Two birds, one stone.

Those people did not affect the outcome nor were they the reason she lost. Even if all of them voted for Harris, she would have still lost.
Their protests across dozens of college campuses did far more damage than their lost votes. Now they get to reap what they sowed and unfortunately, the Palestinians in Gaza and the West Bank will bear the brunt of their foolishness.

So they shouldn't have protested because the protests hurt democrats? is that your argument?

And they will the next time as well. At some point the palestinians are going to have to reject hamas. Don't take my comments to imply that israel is pure in this fight. But the status quo isn't an option and if the palestinians don't want another repeat, they will have to drive change on their side.

I don't necessarily disagree, but it was either going to go heavily in the palestinians way or heavily in israel's way. Going back to something similar was never going to be an option.

I don’t see more strategic protesting happening. I think a far more likely solution is that they disengage completely.
Again, an action that hurts their cause more than helps it.

With friends like these, the Palestinians don’t need enemies.
