Jake Paul

Someone educate me please because I don’t watch this shit. What’s the deal with Jake Paul? Is he a just a highly paid gimmick or something?

Yes and no.

He has real skills for somebody who started so late in life but he was never going to be able to hold up against a world champion or anyone close to that (provided they are the same size as Paul and not 30+ years past their prime).

He is ranked the #14 cruiserweight in the world. He may be over ranked but it ain’t nothing.

Has he even faced a legit boxer before this? Not a champion level guy, but someone who actually earns a living in the ring rather than on a field, court, or retirement community?

Yes, he fought the #50 cruiserweight in the world and lost but it was close.
Again, that ain’t nothing. But he isn’t good enough of a boxer that anyone should know his name. In that sense, yes, all hype.
But he would beat the ever loving crap out of 99%+ of humans in a boxing ring so who am I to say he sucks?

Edit: I’ll say I have been giving him more credit lately because he makes sure the other fighters get paid, and even more importantly he stepped up and saved Ben Askren’s life when Ben was on his deathbed.
 
Paul did his stupid “make crazy eyes and stick out my tongue” look 18 seconds before getting his jaw broke. lol
 
Prior to opening this thread, I had absolutely no idea who Jake Paul was. And other than what the photos in the thread suggest, I still don't. Is Jake Paul someone who I should give any consideration to knowing who he is? Is Jake Paul some IT Titan (iTitan?) who wanted to dabble with boxing in a failed attempt to show what a multifaceted badass he is? Or am I thinking of that character from "Friends"?

Note: I have read the Wikipedia entry on Jake Paul and feel like I don't know substantively more than I did before reading it.
