One Of America's Most Legendary Bourbon Distilleries Is Halting Production

Jim Beam, one of the largest producers of American whiskey in the world, is halting production of its whiskey beginning on January 1, 2026.

"The decision comes amid a notable shift in consumer behavior and mounting economic pressures facing alcohol producers worldwide. According to Gallup, the percentage of U.S. adults who report drinking alcohol has declined to 54%, the lowest level recorded since the polling organization began tracking the data in 1939."

I feel this particular example of a big alcohol producing halting production is more a reflection of the bourbon industry specifically rather than alcohol overall, although the numbers don't lie alcohol consumption is decreasing.

The bourbon producers were chasing a boom about 5 years ago and scaled up production significantly right when the market corrected. So its more akin to a bubble bursting than the bottom falling out of a steady industry. Selfishly I hope we'll continue to see some decreases in bourbon prices. I also expect more "white label" or pseudo-craft producers to launch in 2026 as they try to replace sales quantity with higher prices from exclusive or limited "hyped" releases.

I've done my part as I've greatly increased my drinking these past few months.

especially true with vodka, which should not taste at all. Still, there's a crowd that will demand Tito's or some other brand at the bar and you can give them just about anything and they will not know.

about 5 years ago, I was at a vodka "tasting" in North Hills. Absurd.

I keep Grey Goose in my liquor for guests, but my go to for my day drinking is Aristocrat :cool:

I love the brown but the brown doesn't love me. George Dickel had been my go to in the past. I drank more than my share of Ancient Ancient Age in high school.

I keep Elijah Craig in the cabinet because one of my friends loves Old Fashions, and so I will partake just to be polite.

I have thought about doing that 😄

Years ago I gave a taste test to a friend who was a bit of a snob drinker . I put in front of her three brands of vodka and asked her to rate them. She did not know which brand she was drinking

My brand of vodka at the time was Popov which was a very small step above Aristocrat in price.

So the 3 brands were and the way she rated them

1 ) Popov ( that I had put through a water distiller )
2 ) Grey Goose
3 ) Smirnoff

I've heard that Ancient Ancient Age is pretty much the same as Blanton's
