Celebrating the Army’s 250th anniversary but just happens to coincide with Trump’s 79th birthday (and, as it happens, my mom’s 80th birthday).

Since it is happening, I hope everything goes fine and things don’t get ugly. Given the state of escalation in LA, it almost seems that Trump wants to have protesters descend on his birthday bash. I hope people mostly ignore it and there o a process to repair the damage the heavy equipment does to the District’s infrastructure…

Trump seems to say his parade is because the U.S. is the only one who didn’t celebrate winning WWII(?)

Tell your Mom I'm sorry she has to share a birthday with Orange Hitler.

My brother in law married a Mexican woman. Her mom speaks minimal English, and she frequently speaks Spanglish. Moving from Spanish to English is pretty smooth because there are so many similarities. Moving between German and Japan would be significantly un-smooth and probably a little funny.

The parade is expected to include 6,600 soldiers, but it presents a conundrum.

Should they goose step or not? On the one hand, goose stepping would be a really bad look, but on the other hand, without the goose stepping you lose so much of the military parade pizazz.

I understand the concern but I think ya'll are overreacting. It IS a special occasion - 250th anniversary of the Army - so why not enjoy a celebration of our modern Army. It's bound to help with recruitment (which is on the rise with Trump btw). I can't wait to watch and view our soldiers and new hardware.

France celebrates Bastille Day every year with a military parade. Countries like Spain, Belgium and Ireland will do so on special occasion like the 100 year anniversary of Ireland's Easter Rising.

Everything Trump does is not the end of the Republic.

When a presidential candidate says that he wants to be “a dictator for a day” and then insinuates that he may not leave the presidency but may continue to run for additional terms, it seems fair for citizens to be concerned about other situations that have the appearance of a dictatorship.

We're not France. Also, you might want to check your history about those military parades. It's not the winning point you think it is, but that's what happens when you know only what google told you in two minutes.

We know that Trump wanted a big military parade during his first term, so this has nothing to do with the 250th anniversary of anything. It's a birthday thing for him. He wants to stand up there like fucking Hitler. As usual, you are apologizing for the indefensible.
