Lumbee Recognition

Good, from a tribal perspective. This is long overdue. I recognize that some other tribes are unhappy about this, and I get it, but I also know some Lumbee who our genuinely among the best people I know, and being identified as a tribe matters more than anything to them.

I am worried, however, that Trump is going to wait until the tribe has spent a fair amount of time, energy, and money and before legalizing gambling nationwide. This will, only help the Lumbees if they remain the only game in town.

Lot more to it than a casino. I know you know that.
 
I realize identity goes beyond DNA (look no further than me - my mom determines what I am to some but I didn't grow up that way), but the Lumbee have next to zero indigenous blood. They area around 85% white and 15% sub-Saharan. Still, if WNC is an analog, many "members" will see an improvement in healthcare and housing. That's a great thing.

Yeah. My DNA was 85% white, 12% Congo, 3% Native.

I feel the actual story of the Lumbee is more interesting than trying to cling on this native narrative.

What about “The Lost Colony” connection can you say “Croatoan” or green eyed Lowery/Locklear/Oxendine etc.?

Methinks that perhaps the real estate developer and playwright Paul Green ventured a connection! A cousin had some bumper stickers printed that said “Son’s & Daughter’s of the Lost Colony” He’d say it’s open membership!
I think the Henry Berry Lowery story alone should give legitimacy!
 
I think Robeson voted for a Republican for the first time in ever last cycle. Is that right? Were there any campaign promises on federal recognition?

I think the county went for trump 3 straight times. Also went big for Obama twice. County has gone real red with county commissioners majority GOP and I think ba couple switched from dek to gop. Trump's son buddies with Lumbee leaders. Yes trump promised recognition and delivered. This county is 75 percent of POC so go figure.

Which son? How did Trump's son get buddy buddy with Lumbee leadership? Doesn't seem like any of them would run in similar circles.
