I’m thinking Riverboat Casino on the Lumber River! Sort of “Ozark” style!Going to pass senate tonight. Trump will sign. Should be game-changer for this and surrounding counties but it will take time.
Lot more to it than a casino. I know you know that.Good, from a tribal perspective. This is long overdue. I recognize that some other tribes are unhappy about this, and I get it, but I also know some Lumbee who our genuinely among the best people I know, and being identified as a tribe matters more than anything to them.
I am worried, however, that Trump is going to wait until the tribe has spent a fair amount of time, energy, and money and before legalizing gambling nationwide. This will, only help the Lumbees if they remain the only game in town.
Excellent point. The fact that there is more to this than a casino was the intent of my first paragraph, just FYI.Lot more to it than a casino. I know you know that.
Almost all fights around tribal recognition concern casinos. The biggest opponents of recognition are competing casino operators. Tribal recognition has become a huge political football in the Indian Gaming era.Lot more to it than a casino. I know you know that.
Yeah. My DNA was 85% white, 12% Congo, 3% Native.I realize identity goes beyond DNA (look no further than me - my mom determines what I am to some but I didn't grow up that way), but the Lumbee have next to zero indigenous blood. They area around 85% white and 15% sub-Saharan. Still, if WNC is an analog, many "members" will see an improvement in healthcare and housing. That's a great thing.
Interesting perspective. Clif notes?Yeah. My DNA was 85% white, 12% Congo, 3% Native.
I feel the actual story of the Lumbee is more interesting than trying to cling on this native narrative.
Remnants of several tribes, freed slaves, and whites mixing together to survive. We survive and thrived ( relative to the conditions in a res). A couple more generations and everyone will look like us.Interesting perspective. Clif notes?
What about “The Lost Colony” connection can you say “Croatoan” or green eyed Lowery/Locklear/Oxendine etc.?Interesting perspective. Clif notes?
I think the county went for trump 3 straight times. Also went big for Obama twice. County has gone real red with county commissioners majority GOP and I think ba couple switched from dek to gop. Trump's son buddies with Lumbee leaders. Yes trump promised recognition and delivered. This county is 75 percent of POC so go figure.I think Robeson voted for a Republican for the first time in ever last cycle. Is that right? Were there any campaign promises on federal recognition?
Which son? How did Trump's son get buddy buddy with Lumbee leadership? Doesn't seem like any of them would run in similar circles.I think the county went for trump 3 straight times. They came to the county several times.campaigning. apparently visit regularly. Donald Jr. Goes hunting with a bunch of locals fairly often I'm told.Which son? How did Trump's son get buddy buddy with Lumbee leadership? Doesn't seem like any of them would run in similar circles.
