We went to Thanksgiving at some distant relatives this year. They did a non traditional meal with a sous vide turkey shaped out of tofu and after a few bites it wasn't sitting well. On my way to the bathroom I caught a glance out of the corner of my eye of blow up dolls of Kamala and Walz in their bedroom. I thought that was pretty odd but I'm not judging.
Is that because they are MAGA and think they fucked Harris and Walz?

Or are they just kinky and a trump or vance doll would probably make them go limp?

And not everyone let's (sic) politics become so all consuming that they feel compelled to put up, at Thanksgiving, a cardboard cutout of the person they voted for. But as you noted, maybe that was just incidental...
I believe he has one also from the tone of his post.

I’m truly fascinated how this upsets many of you. It’s an obvious conservative family, happy about the election, that decided to have some fun by purchasing a cardboard likeness of Trump and doing the Trump dance (which is viral) before they sat down to enjoy a family gathering. That’s it. No Jim Jones kool aide served for desert. Nobody died. A good time was had by all.
I don't believe anyone is upset.

It's just weird.

I have voted in every election since I was 18, both republican and democrat.

I've been happy when my candidate won, but I've never once thought of dancing with a cardboard cut out of the candidate.

I believe people talking about this goes back to all of the other norms for candidates that trump has destroyed.

In the past, win or lose, I always respected the person that won. Trump is the first one that I do not respect. He's also the first that seems to have a cult following. He's also the first that was a felon, and a grifter. I don't recall any other candidate selling branded bibles, shoes, coins, etc.

It's just weird.

This thread really has not delivered the pathos and family brawls I was hoping to savor. You people really disappoint me. I want volcanic eruptions of anger and intra-familial fisticuffs. Do better new zizzle!
Well, to be fair the thread got diverted and distracted by the odd Tik Tok family dancing around Dear Leader video. Maybe we can get back on track and give some stories of family holiday misery with outspoken Trumper relatives.

Fwiw, I got into a mildly testy exchange with a Gen X hippie, raised by boomer hippies, who took offense to me bringing up the through-line from the libertarianism embedded within the deadhead movement to the tea party to maga (they brought up The G.D., fwiw). I couched it as a “small but not insignificant component” of the deadheads, and offered it as a careful-what-you-wish-for counter to their wish of having “a world built on the kindness exemplified” by the deadhead movement.

I might not be invited back.

He's probably confused.

And cutting off Trumpers is so common and easy that the stories about it are just boring. People just go no contact and continue on with their lives. The big shows were more a 2016 thing. In 2024 people laugh at folks whining about families splitting, and even that has a short shelf life.

It also may have largely run its course. We’ve already had 8 years of MAGA. It’s not like these families that exploded came together only to explode again.

lol. You’re talking about people who have a cardboard cut out of a politician in their house.
Good point. So by GT's assessment these people didn't let politics become so all consuming, yet they have a political cut out and are dancing with it at a family holiday gathering. Hmmm.

You know, the more I have thought about this thread, the less I care. I'm just not going to talk politics with family or friends and if someone has a trump cardboard cutout, it's none of my business. Maybe that's their kink.

Just had our first family get together with my side of the family. Neither Trump, the election or politics in general came up at all. I still have no idea of how anyone but my wife and kids voted.
