Major changes proposed for UNC (engineering school + enrollment increase)

If we're adding 15-20k undergrads, the only way I'd come close to supporting it is if the majority of them are OOS admits.
You could definitely include more from big high schools in Charlotte and Raleigh and still get kids who can come in an do the work.

What about the University of Georgia or the University of Washington or the University of Wisconsin? All from similarly sized states, all very highly regarded universities, and all much bigger than UNC.
They are very good universities, but not elite like Carolina.

Im wary of increasing enrollment too much; think you’re at risk of messing with what has made Carolina special.

What’s the size of the other UNC schools?

Of that 31K aren't only about 20K undergrads?

Would have to think some of those could expand as well.

I had no idea Charlotte was that big. In my mind I had them at about 1/2 the size of UNc and State.

I'm sure they could.

Part of the problem is that demand is not equal across the system.

Puppet BOG appears determined to reshape a lot of this - FRIPping at UNCG, UNCA, and ECU (Faculty Realignment Incentive Program: Faculty Realignment Incentive Program (FRIP) Summary - Office of the Provost ). Professor buy-outs to retire while cutting adjuncts - talk is, nevertheless to up enrollment. Larger classes? Is the infrastructure available for that? Fishy fishy - seems they want big schools and to close or turn the smaller ones into satellites.

Double the undergraduate population and take about 1/2-2/3 of the increase from out of state. We’ll look a lot more like Michigan.

UNC has a CS program, I’ve heard it’s just not well managed. Like the demand for that major from students outpaces the resources the university puts into it, it’s hard to get registered for the correct classes to stay on track because there aren’t enough people to teach the classes, etc.
