1950’s when the blacks and browns knew their place, women knew they should be in the kitchen, and the white man ruled.
^All of this. MAGA Nation wants to roll back the clock to a mythical golden age when the world seemed simpler and the country was much less racially diverse and Latinos were far less prominent and visible and it was easy to pretend that LGBTQ people simply didn't exist because they were not allowed a public presence and were still forced into the closet, legally and socially. Women were still largely confined to the home and child-rearing. And white people still dominated the country politically, culturally, and in pretty much everything.

Think of all of those 1950s and 1960s TV shows where blacks and other minorities were either nonexistent (like The Andy Griffith Show, which was set in a small Southern town with no black people at all) or were so rare that they were featured as amusing oddities, like Ricky on I Love Lucy. And we still had a manufacturing-based economy where decent-paying blue-collar jobs were plentiful and most towns had at least one large factory where folks could go to work straight out of high school, no college degree required. Basically, they want the TV version of America in the 1950s and 1960s.

Wow. That’s scary. All of them want this? Have you met them all?

This was helpful. Now do all the non-MAGA.

Yes, most of them actually do. Have you read the articles since 2016 in which Trumpers are actually interviewed about what they want? The large majority of them keep talking about some golden past era where everything was better. Sorry if you don't like what's being said.

I googled and quickly found one article from just last month discussing a survey in which Republicans and Democrats were asked to write down what "Make America Great Again" meant to them.

And here's what Republicans who responded said. Broadly, they want a "Return to traditional and moral values" (back to the past), "Restoration of Economic and Global Strength" (Return to Manufacturing), and "Nationalism and America First" policies (Return to past isolationism).

Here's what some individual Republicans said in the survey: MAGA means “encouraging manufacturers to hire Americans and strengthen the economy. Making the USA self-sufficient as it once was.” (which is exactly what I said above, going back to manufacturing).

"Republicans also expressed a strong desire to reverse cultural shifts that Republican respondents perceive as a threat" (which is exactly what I said).

As one Republican put it, MAGA “means going back to where men would join the military, women were home raising healthy minded children and it was easy to be successful, the crime rate was extremely low [it's already very low right now, according to the latest data] and it used to be safe for kids to hang out on the streets with other kids and even walk themselves places.”

Another Republican made the connection between MAGA and traditional gender roles even more explicit, highlighting the link between MAGA and opposition to transgender rights: “MAGA people know there are only 2 sexes and a man can never be a woman. If you believe otherwise you are destroying AMERICA.”

And you can find article after article since 2016 with Republicans saying the same. Does every single Trumper want this? Of course not - but I have no doubt that the great majority do.

You think the 50's and 60's were isolationist?

You think the 50's and 60's were isolationist?
No, of course not. The 20s and 30s were quite isolationist, not the 50s and 60s. But then I'm not a MAGA wanting to return to a go-it-alone foreign policy. The broader point is that the whole thrust of the MAGA movement is backwards - to the 50s and 60s culturally and socially, or to whatever decade they think things were better for people like them. We're talking about people who still argue that the Civil War wasn't caused by slavery and who in many cases believe that humans and dinosaurs lived together (see "The Ark Experience" in Kentucky) or that the Earth is just a few thousand years old, so I don't expect much in the way of logic or coherence in what time periods they're discussing.

“… the non-MAGA”
Wait, do you mean the non-MAGA Republicans and conservatives who didn’t swallow the Trump kool-aid? You mean the John McCain/Liz Cheney/Adam Kinzinger/GeorgeWBush Republicans? They would most certainly be considered “non-MAGA”.

Or do you mean everybody else who didn’t vote Trump? Independents, Democrats, “nondenominational” voters (for lack of a better term).

Understand, you can be MAGA and not registered GOP.
And you can be a registered Republican and not be a MAGA-Trumper.

To me all the MAGA are indeed “scary” as you put it.
All the “non-MAGA” are not. So a listing of their characteristics and goals won’t be scary at all. Downright refreshing actually.

It's all about straight white Christian nationalists having power and privilege just because they are straight white Christian nationalists.

So let’s do it, in two paragraphs, all nice and tidy and self-affirming

Not a very rigorous assessment of the sampling methods

Seriously this crap with whitewashing the conservatives is straight up bullshit and if you’re angry about that look in the fucking mirror and try to remember when you weren’t in the cult.
