March Madness - And then there were Two

So long as he beats d00k.
My priorities pretty much every NCAA tournament are, in order of importance, for UNC (if we're in it) to go as far as possible, and second, for dook to lose as soon as possible (definitely before reaching the Final Four). And once dook loses then I sort out whatever coaches or teams I want to win or lose. And obviously I'd prefer for UNC to have as easy a path as possible to the title game.

One can’t say hasn’t had Jimmys and Joes, that’s for sure.
I actually think Scheyer is quite good at game prep coaching. The defensive adjustments he made to deal with injuries this year and the offensive adaptations as younger guys emerged were impressive.

What he seems to not be great at are in-game handling of end of game situations.

Coach K also got burned by over-reliance on late game slow-downs and trying to use iso plays to draw fouls down the stretch (see the end of the ‘99 title game). But Scheyer starts that even earlier and it is predictable.

Cayden Boozer will be the unfortunate face of that loss for the rest of time but Cameron had a huge turnover to help UConn get it to a one possession game, spinning into a double team.

I have enjoyed watching the Boozer kids play TBH — they just bring it without a lot of the over the top theatrics and Cameron’s a dominant college player. Once the dookies recover from this loss (which may be a while — it took me a while to recover from some Elite 8 upsets like v Syracuse in ‘87 even when they weren’t as dramatic), they’ll recall that two starters were playing injured and that cost them defensively against UConn in the second half, IMO.

For highly rated freshmen, their attitude and conduct has been beyond reproach.

They were trying to move the ball so as not to be fouled. I was saying they were doing a damn good job and then….

It isn’t uncommon for guys to move the ball around to avoid the foul. I wouldn’t say that that is dumb.
While true, a lead with the ball and about 6 seconds at that point, I would have held on and let the other team foul.

The heelinhell magic continues 1-14 picking dook** to win it all...just lose, baby

so I'm rooting for Illinois but I'm not sure who I should root for in the other game to give us the best chance for a homerun hire...Michigan or Arizona ?

My thoughts on dook - I think it hurts them that the ACC is really down - they lost to us but I don't anyone else even really challenged them - they rolled through the ACC tourney even missing key players - they did have a pretty tough non conference schedule but that was months ago

Yeah, he probably needs to hire an assistant who is proficient with in-game tactics and just let them handle it.
Can you think of any instances where that dynamic worked out?

It may have I just can't recall one.
