March Madness - And then there were Two

Let’s hope they can keep it up for one more game. Otherwise, Hurley will become the new K.
Of course I could be wrong but I expect Michigan to beat UConn. I really do. They beat Illinois by 14 earlier when they played.

They were dominant in the Big10 and its pretty clear that the Big10 was far and away the best league.

All of that is painful for Carolina fans, I know. But it is true. The Big10 at this point is the far and away best overall league in football and basketball and they will stay there. Its why I think we are crazy to prefer the SEC as a destination. Yeah, I know we would hate a Big10 baseball situation but we shouldn't let baseball be a factor in that decision.

The Big is the best league. Better atheltics, better academics, more of a national profile, and bigger payouts.

And oh by the way I don't want to voluntarily join a league that is mostly Dixie folks that don't give a crap about funding higher education

Apologies to Cadeau. I gave up on him. Was glad when he left. Turns out, we didn’t deserve him. He may not shoot the lights out, but he’s the PG we really could have used this year. Evans wasn’t it.
Cadeau showed flashes of that game at UNC. People forget about his good games/moments.

At UNC he was driving a Maxima at Michigan he's driving a Ferrari.

I was a Cadeau fan and really liked what he brought to the table, even if his shooting was suspect. I saw a lot more in him than most of the IC posters, and was bummed when he hit the portal. As it turned out, after we failed to land a real PG, losing him was a big loss.

All I will say about the Elliot situation is that if our staff really let him get away because we weren't willing to pay him $800k more than we paid Evans then they all should have been fired based on a lack of talent evaluation alone.

If Evans is worth $1.2 million (he ain't), then Cadeau is worth $10 million. The two are not in the same stratosphere of ability. We may as well be comparing Michael Jordan and Joe Wolf.

It's sports and they get paid to play now. UNC to the Big instead of the ACC is like Cal and Stanford being in the ACC when it comes to regional sports rivalries.

More hated, Dan Hurley or Jim Calhoun ?
It’s likely a close race from those who know both of them well. I heard Pat Forde on a podcast recently and he said Calhoun was one of the most difficult coaches he ever tried to deal with. He said Hurley is actually a pretty engaging guy when he doesn’t have his game face on, but Calhoun never bothered to try being anything but a jerk.

I know that I stand mainly alone but academic association means something to me. That said, since it seems relatively clear that many of the very best college athletes are not actually students perhaps that's a truly moot point.

I’ve always preferred the B1G to the SEC as a destination for UNC and UVa. It’s just made up of schools I’d rather be affiliated with, and sports-wise they seem superior in pretty much everything but baseball. Certainly they emphasize the “Olympic sports” (which a pretty damn big deal at UNC) more than the SEC with the possible exception of gymnastics. But the B1G would be much better for our soccer, lacrosse, field hockey, etc. teams in addition to being better in football and basketball.

What a dud of a game. I would be sick if I was an Arizona fan

After not having a let down game all season, that was certainly it

Looks like not beating Michigan by playing fast held true

I believe there are a handful of institutions in the SEC which are academically viable. UT, South Carolina, Auburn, Florida come to mind. The rest? Meh

As a Duke guy it sucks to think how we beat them not long ago and then couldn't get it done. And even if we didn't choke we wouldn't beat Michigan now. Injuries suck. But as you guys know well, that's just a part of the game. So you shrug and move on
