That stinks.

"Using marijuana doubles the risk of dying from heart disease, according to a new analysis of pooled medical data involving 200 million people mostly between the ages of 19 and 59.

“What was particularly striking was that the concerned patients hospitalized for these disorders were young (and thus, not likely to have their clinical features due to tobacco smoking) and with no history of cardiovascular disorder or cardiovascular risk factors..."

This study didn't address the consumption method but smoking was probably by far the most prevelent. But according to a different study, edibles users were showing signs of early heart disease.

They also discussed potency as a possible reason for the increased risks. I'd like to see more studies to determine if adjusting potency or different consumption methods could reduce risk.

Interesting. And agreed - you'll need to understand the details of use ... including potency ... because the dose makes the poison.

That said, particularly via smoking, for anyone that thinks regularly smoking anything is gonna be good (or net neutral) for your long-term health, I got a bridge to sell ya...

Went to Heart. Got as far as this and lost some serious interest in their conclusions after reading this.

I am not awed.

Tobacco cigarettes, marijuana cigarettes, living near an OG factories, breathing in vehicle exhaust back in the day all increase CV, cancer risk, and stroke. Duh. #particulatesmatter

The pendulum of medical science seems to be swinging away from any amount of alcohol consumption too. I think a lot of people have hung their hats on the old "a couple of glasses of wine is good for you" theory but now most of the stuff I read is that no amount of alcohol is good for you and even small amounts can be detrimental. Time to switch to ketamine I guess...

yeah, marijuana is not good for you. esp in large quantities. breaking news at 10!

i think that some confounding variables are probably in play with this particular situation, though.

i.e. a lot of people with heart risk factors for other reasons also tend to consume marijuana.

I can't use the stuff at all in any form. I get super anxious and paranoid to the point of almost needing medical intervention. It just ain't for me.
yeah, i have to be so much more careful about it now than when i was younger. used to be i could smoke 24/7/365 and enjoy it.

too much anxiety now if i use at the wrong time. sativa is pretty much off the menu for me totally now. just too much. i'm trying to relax and wind down with my use.

Pretty much from after I graduated high school until I was in my late 40's, for one reason or another, I was subject to drug testing. Whether as part of a job or to obtain some sort of certification, as an adult I have never been really free to try pot or any drug, other than alcohol. So, maybe there is an upside to my having been a stick-up-my-%$* jerk. But I was never a big enough jerk to agree with how the United States has attempted to regulate recreational drugs, the selective prosecution of hard drugs, or our mixed reactions about alcohol abuse in regard to who is abusing alcohol and whether or not such abusers were caught driving while intoxicated.

I recently started drinking THC-infused drinks on occasion, thinking that maybe it would be better for me that consuming alcohol. I don’t drink them a lot, but maybe 2 per week. (I still drink alcohol too, but now probably at least a couple drinks less per week.) Sucks if those THC-infused drinks are no batter for me.

I haven’t smoked weed in years. One reason is because I just don’t want to inhale any type of smoke anymore. But also as I got older, I started to feel anxiety once the weed kicked in. What was once very enjoyable, no longer was. The THC-infused drinks don’t make me feel that way. I just tend to feel relaxed when they kick in and I notice whatever music I’m listening to sounds a little better.

I've only been using it daily for 53 years and nothing has shown up yet with my heart. And yes, I'm the guy that loads a bowl with that 4o% THC bud and put a dash of the 99% concentrate on top. I take 5-6 hits on that 5-6 times a day.

If you don't like smoking, tinctures are pretty handy. That's what I used when I had to feed myself through a gastric tube.

Delta-9 THC *can* cause anxiety and even paranoia. Delta-8 is more relaxing.

My god, I would be the human equivalent of a splattered tomato on a quarter of that dose 😵‍💫

Dry vape is the way to go. Dynavap. Not saying there’s no issues but it’s a lot healthier than smoking.
