That bit about AGs being able to sue Homeland Security...can really go sideways.
Yes. Part of the plan. What you're seeing in slow motion is the return of nullification to the US. States want the ability to selectively pick and choose which federal laws to follow. Ignoring or defying the laws are one way, but that's a bit dangerous because you know, military. Destroying the federal law from within is a better option. If states can sue about anything immigration related, then the feds will just stop trying and that will allow Texas and other states to do what they really want.

You are surely familiar with mendacious politicians who lust after the power to inflict misery on people because of who they are. I think you've been victimized by those types of people. Well, those exist in America as well, and a lot of them hold offices at the state level. These are the people who get hard thinking about separating children from their parents.

American politics makes more sense if you make sure not to forget that most of the GOP, especially in the south, would have a very favorable impression of Riot Montt if they knew who he was. Some of them would love to be him. Minus his attempts to minimize graft.

Trump transition considering D.C.-area showcase immigration raid in first days of administration

The raid under consideration would target immigrants allegedly living in the U.S. illegally at a workplace in the Washington, D.C., metropolitan area.

“… In meetings between the Trump transition team and U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement officials, the Trump team has repeatedly asked about resources and logistics immediately available to carry out workplace raids, the three people, who spoke on the condition of anonymity because they’re not authorized to speak to the media about transition discussions, said. …”

As an aside, it seems that Trump47 admin leaks like a sieve just like Trump45 did.

Trump border czar privately tempers Republican lawmaker expectations on administration’s initial deportation operation

“… The discussions are part of a broader level-setting that is occurring among House Republicans, who are now coming to terms with the challenges of turning one of their key campaign promises into a reality. Republicans are also grappling with the harsh realization that most of their border overhaul measures are unlikely to be included in Trump’s massive agenda bill, given the strict rules around the reconciliation process that require proposals to either increase revenue or reduce spending, not change policy.

“Many members are only now beginning to understand that,” one GOP lawmaker told CNN. …”

We'll find out very soon, but I still wonder if in the end we're mainly going to see a lot of smoke and mirrors without much actually being done. Some dramatic raids and flashy deportations of relatively small numbers of illegals, but nothing on the scale that Dear Leader promised in the campaign. And they'll rely on right-wing media like Fox and OAN and Newsmax to fool their base into thinking that some major deportations and round ups are happening and that Trump's promises are actually being carried out. And the reason will be because too much of their base needs that cheap immigrant labor to survive - farmers, small-business owners, construction industry, and rich and upper-middle-class people who hire them for various jobs.

He first calls family separation a euphemism for the terrible job he says Biden did and family separation is something Dems will hide behind, saying it is about compassion for families.

Interesting politics here b/c Republicans have generally pushed to cover Venezuelans -- leaving that for Trump to have to do, I guess, if the GOP wants to do.

As a purely political matter (not a matter of what is or is not right on the merits), I'm not really sure why the Biden Administration is now worried about the appearance of political motivation to hinder the incoming Administration, TBH. It's not like Biden will be running again ...

I wonder if Ron has considered that Biden did not extend protected status for Venezuelan immigrants? I mean, he may be thrilled, I don’t know.

Venezuelans will be a massive problem for DeSantis, and to a slightly lesser extent for Trump. From the opposite perspective, it would be as if we had admitted five million Marxists into New York in 1910.

We'll see soon enough if the Biden Administration was lying when they said Congress needed to act in order to stop the flood of illegals into our country. Trump will have the same immigration laws to deal with as Biden, like he already had during his first term, and let's see what he is able to get done.

It is astonishing to me how party affiliation can convince supposedly rational people to be accepting of what has taken place at the borders over the past 4 years. We are talking about millions of people from all over the world just walking across, being flown across and coming straight on in....bused or flown to a neighborhood of their choosing....as long as that neighborhood isn't a neighborhood occupied by the people actually in charge of making these decisions.

We have no idea who these people are. How could we? You see how long it takes for the FBI to conduct a background investigation into a cabinet selection? How was there enough time to properly vet millions of immigrants just showing up at the border without becoming overwhelmed? Where did the answers come from pertaining to the identity of these millions of migrants? From the same countries who are so corrupt that it led to everyone trying to escape from them? What about the 2 million known gotaways? Who are they? Why did they still feel the need to sneak in when everyone else was just walking in and getting free transportation, free medical care, free housing, free food? How many more are unknown? Everybody knows the answers to these questions but yet it was good enough for some to see Alejandro Mayorkas lie to the entire nation about the border being secure. I guess the border was secure just like the gates around Kenan Stadium are secure but on any given Saturday 50+ thousand people will walk right into Kenan. Why? Because Carolina wants them there, just like the Biden Administration wanted all of these migrants here.

What about the hundreds of thousands of lost migrant children? Is anyone on the left concerned about them? I remember when pictures from the Obama Administration showing children in cages were used to stoke outrage towards Trump about separating families at the border. Are all the same people who were so concerned then not equally concerned (or more) now about migrant children actually being lost?

And lastly, where is all the money needed to take care of millions of indigent people supposed to come from in a country already 36 trillion in debit trying to take care of the responsibilities we already have? He's going to cut Social Security, he's going to cut Medicare, Social Security is going to go bankrupt, Medicare is going to go bankrupt, year after year, over and over again. How can anyone screaming those concerns now remain quiet while millions of people are allowed in who will consume the exact same resources?

So, now we will get to watch the liberal news media (the same media who ignored the millions of immigrants when they entered) try to get any and all footage of any illegal immigrant who is caught and detained pending deportation, even if that immigrant is a criminal who the Democrat run sanctuary cities have and are currently trying to protect while endangering their own citizens in the process, in their attempt to make the Trump Administration look as cruel as possible. All these people, many of which I'm sure are good hardworking people, may now be forced to go back to their home country....a country they likely would have never left had it not been for the Biden Administration rolling out the welcome mat.

1. Migrant workers are the best thing to happen to social security finances ever. They pay, and will never collect. Generally speaking, migrants are a boon to the country's economy. They produce economic benefits in excess of what they consume, and that only becomes more pronounced when you consider their children.

2. The debt has basically nothing to do with migrants. That's so stupid but it's on brand for you. Also, non-citizen, non-green card immigrants cannot actually collect Medicare or Social Security, but they do pay into it.

3. What's remarkable is how your party affiliation causes you to reject all facts and logic in favor of bullshit and misinformation.

4. We already know what Trump did on immigration. Jack shit until the pandemic. Most of the shit he talks about has already been found to be illegal by federal courts, including the Supreme Court on occasion (though pre-ACB).

5. Stop projecting your own ignorance. YOU clearly do not know "who these people are." That doesn't mean "we" don't. It just means you're a dumbass who confuses his own ignorance for a state of the world.

Don’t worry about worker shortages. Many states have already relaxed child labor regulations. I’m sure more will follow.
If the GOP manages to totally destroy the idea of public education, children will need something to keep 'em off the streets. Don't want street urchins making mischief.

I expect that, in a spirit of bipartisanship, they are going to invoke the spirit of their fellow populist, Andy Jackson and his crowning achievement, the Trail of Tears.
Nothing evil to see here... we are a Jesus loving nation. So passé is “Give me your tired, your poor, your huddled masses yearning to breathe free”.

That's not true.

He did promulgate a pattern of forcibly separating children from their families, absent due process considerations and with virtually no thought given to the potential for reuniting those so separated, with the intent of having them relinquish certain rights, such that it was found to shock the conscience of the court.

So I mean, he has that going for him.

You are correct. Thanks for the amendment.
