MIT Professor Fatally Shot At His Home, Police Launch Homicide Investigation

BROOKLINE, Mass. (AP) — A professor at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology was fatally shot at his home near Boston, and authorities said Tuesday they had launched a homicide investigation.
Nuno F.G. Loureiro, a 47-year-old physicist and fusion scientist, was shot Monday night at his home in Brookline, Massachusetts. He died at a local hospital on Tuesday, the Norfolk District Attorney’s Office said in a statement.

Usually they are dead

For this reason I don’t think this shooting was random. That archetype generally keeps going until they’re killed by police. Shooting a few people and disappearing makes me think some sort of grievance was involved. But obviously that’s 100% amateur opinion.

What's the longest amount of time it has taken to catch someone who has carried out one of these random mass shootings? Usually they are caught pretty quickly.
Most die pretty quickly but a few can last a while. There was a guy in Maine that killed like 14 people earlier this year and I think he lasted 48 hours. I think the Charleston Church shooter lasted a couple of days.

There was a guy in Montana that killed four or five people at a bar that lasted more than a week.

There's a cop in California that killed four or five cops and their family members and I think he lasted more than a week. And you can bet every cop in the state was looking for that guy.

And Eric Rudolph, the Olympic bomber, was obviously not a shooter but he lasted for 5 years.

So not unheard of to be a multi-day manhunt but pretty rare.

True. It just seems they have no idea who this shooter is.
It took years to (allegedly) identify the J6 pipe bomber. Took them nearly 20 years to catch the unabomber and he was a repeat offender. It took 30 years to catch the Golden State Killer who went around shooting people for years. Different than a mass shooting now but still worth considering — unlike serial killers, most of the mass shooters aren’t trying to get away. This guys is behaving more like a terrorist or serial killer.

Yeah but unabomber and Golden State Killer were before video. They didn't know what unabomber looked like, at all.

Seriously, though, we don’t know much about what the Brown shooter looks like from the videos. Heck, for years a lot of people thought the J6 bomber video had to be a woman (there were far left nut theories it was MTG).
