I'm sure glad all the liberal folks on X are so certain Ella Cook wasn't targeted for being an outspoken conservative on a very leftist campus. Let's wait and see as this case is very odd with unexpected twists and turns.

We might know much more if Brown hadn't caved to anti ICE and pro Palestinian groups this summer and turned off a number of cameras on its campus. Conservatives are going to need to avoid certain NE schools else risk their lives. The Ivies have lost control of their campuses. I'm trying to talk my nephew out of going to Columbia for his MBA and go to UVA instead.
Goodbye. Up to four on ignore. Say hi to the others.

Didn't we get images of the guy from campus? How would more cameras tell us more about his motivations?

1. Brown didn't cave to anti-ICE groups. It's the other way around. There are places caving to ICE. Logic, reason and American values say that ICE is completely awful and out of control. The pathological view is that somehow what they are doing is acceptable, not the other way around. This is why Ivies are not keen to have ICE around. Because Ivies are generally populated by smart people.

2. MAGAs have such a warped mental model born of resentment. Students at Ivies are smart; the smart people agree on some things; therefore they must be brainwashed by haters and weirdos. It is inexplicable. It's just a huge overreaction to the idea that there are smarter people than you.

People who go to Harvard Law School are smarter than people who go to Mercer Law school or even UNC law school. That is just a fact. Every piece of evidence that I've ever seen points in that direction. It certainly has been my experience. The students I teach are a step slower cognitively than the students I went to law school with, or clerked with. And you know what, that's OK.

3. Intelligence is a small part of who we are. It is correlated to success, but only weakly. In some professions, such as law, intelligence only gets you so far and after the threshold is reached, other factors dominate. To the extent that we don't control our intelligence -- we do a little, but it's most genetics and early childhood environment, I think -- it's just a trait like others. There have to be short people in order for there to be tall people. There have to be bad shooters for there to be good shooters. There have to be less intelligent people for there to be more intelligent people.

4. I remember something 'Tawn said once after beating a lesser team in an OOC game, some MEAC team or whatever. It was along the lines of, "it's so important to be respectful of the other players. They might not be as good as us, but they are still players and they're on the court." It was a very long time ago so I've mangled the words but the sentiment is exactly right. Everyone on the court matters. But insisting that people at Ivies aren't better academically is like insisting that 'Tawn wasn't the best player on the court that game, and virtually every game his sophomore and junior seasons. It's idiotic.

As a Darden grad let me just say this: You apparently don't know the first fucking thing about UVA if you think it is some haven for right-wingnuttery. Additionally, my sister has a Columbia MBA, and I assure you that if you think that program is some leftist sanctuary, well then you are, as usual, utterly incorrect.
There isn't an MBA program anywhere that is a leftist sanctuary. It's categorically not possible.

First, Ram claimed that the shooter would be some "Allahu Akbar" screaming pro-Palestinian/pro-transgender freakazoid leftist in their mid-20's. Now that the gunman has been identified as a middle-aged Portuguese dude who lives in Miami who failed out of Brown during the Bush administration and who has no apparent political ties, motives, or inclinations, Ram is convinced that the gunman specifically targeted a 19-year-old conservative girl from Birmingham, AL for....reasons...and traveled all the way to Providence to specifically murder her...for being a conservative...during an Economics study sesh in the Applied Sciences building which would have not only required him to know her course schedule but would also have required him to know the entire University's exam schedule since exam locations at Brown aren't announced until the week prior and routinely take place in classrooms/buildings different from their usual meeting location. And then after he painstakingly and calculatingly found this very specific 19-year-old conservative girl from Birmingham, AL and killed her, he decided to *also* try to kill a dozen other bystanders, and then hightail it up to Boston to have a little chit-chat with an old academic counterpart whom he then decided to kill for....reasons.

Do I have that correct?

The only images we got of the shooter were from private cameras. Nothing from Brown's cameras. You don't think have cameras in the auditorium might have helps us determine his motivation?

I don't think I've ever said that the people at Ivies aren't smart but that doesn't mean they have good judgment. My son has a graduate degree (MBA) from Harvard so I know they're smart.

There were reports that the shooter shouted "AA" when entering the auditorium. I didn't make that up. Reporters asked the Police Chief about this and he refused to answer. I think we'll eventually find out once the investigation is completed.

Time has passed Ram by. I really hope you will retire and enjoy your sunset days, my friend. You're no longer able to keep up with the world that surrounds you.

You’re missing the part about the in-house camera conspiracy.

Yeah, those "reports" were all right-wing social media influencers who said that the shooter shouted Allahu Akbar. Not one single solitary reputable news source or outlet reported such, and in fact, students who were in the classroom where the shooting took place said that he did not, in fact, shout Allahu Akbar. Your problem is that your brain is so irrevocably poisoned and so irredeemably rotted by whatever absolute garbage online right wing sources you guzzle that it has long ago lost its ability to discern shit from Shinola, and instead of humbly acknowledging that you are so far out of your league and out of your depth, you double and then triple down on your mendacious stupidity.

No, I do not think that images reveal motivations.

It's so funny how so many board conservatives, who evince little intelligence themselves, have family members with degrees from Harvard. Fishiop, for example. I guess it didn't run in the family?

Intelligence is not the same as good judgment. However, the best case you can make is that good judgment is randomly distributed relative to intelligence (intelligence surely does not create bad judgment overall). Which means that if you have a large sample of smart people, the judgment will be average, and equal to any other group. Meaning that you're left with a cohort of people with above average intelligence and average judgment. You might or might not be able to follow the reasoning here but ChatGPT can explain it to you.

And when all of those smart people form a pretty strong consensus that ICE is bad, it's just so weird to treat that view as aberrational. One would think that the MAGAs might wonder, "gee, why do the smart people disagree with me?" but we know why they don't.

Can you imagine if one of Ram's kids stumbles on this message board? I'm really starting to feel sorry for the man. You could be a troglodyte in Atlanta 40 years ago and have a great career. Time has just passed him by.

As I said above, the key to MAGA logic is treating their intuitions as evidence.

You’re talking about, what, 1/3 of the voting population.

None of what he did makes sense. Why would he single her out and shoot her repeatedly? Why would he shoot any of them because he flunked out of the school 25 years ago?
None of what he did makes sense, so until proven otherwise you will just assume this is left-wing violence against conservatives. Got it.

Reports from whom, may I ask?
