Conservatives will use this to argue that gun laws don't work, ignoring that this is the first such incident in Canada in 30+ years.

If that's still the party line. They may have moved on to "We could never actually fix it so why even try?"
They also had a mass shooting in Canada in 2020 that killed 23 people.

RCMP Superintendent Ken Floyd told reporters that investigators had identified a female suspect but would not release a name, and that the shooter’s motive remained unclear. He added that police are still investigating how the victims are connected to the shooter.
Another trans shooting - Jesse Strang. The Canada-based news outlet, Juno News, spoke to the suspect's uncle, Russell G. Strang, who revealed that Jesse Strang was a trans woman, aged 18. She was found dead in what is believed to be a self-inflicted injury, according to the police.

The shooter may end up being trans, but that hasn’t been confirmed by any reputable news source.

Juno News/True North is a propaganda site, on par with Gateway Pundit.

I'm not claiming this news source is reputable, but....

Who was Jesse Strang?

The Canadian authorities are yet to confirm the identity. However, Canada-based news outlet, Juno News, spoke the suspect's uncle, Russell G. Strang, who revealed that Jesse Strang was a trans woman, aged 18. She was found dead from what is believed to be a self-inflicted injury, according to police.

So Zen and Ram have the same Facebook newsfeed apparently.

So the uncle has a different last name?

But it was copied by a news aggregator?

Well ok.

Yeah. I would be skeptical of Juno news too, but it has been confirmed by more reputable media. They have her name as Jesse Van Rootselaar.

It's an issue. It's not the issue Ram wants it to be, but it's a major issue and one we need to address. I hate the saying but it applies here -- hurt people hurt people. That doesn't absolve them of fault. What this young woman did is unforgiveable. But it can, if we're willing, help us understand what we can do to prevent things like this from happening.

For a long list of incredibly complicated reasons, trans people, and especially young trans people, are more likely to suffer from mental illness than the rest of the population. They're also far more likely to be bullied and abused, especially if they're in a social environment that does not support them. We need (much) more mental and appropriate physical healthcare. We need intervention strategies. We need supportive communities. We need a whole lot more compassion and a whole lot less scapegoating.

I know some of you here either work with trans individuals or have them in your family. The last thing I'm trying to do is lump all trans people into some universal "more likely to be violent" category. They're not. But they do have vulnerabilities that most of us don't share. And too often, we're seeing those vulnerabilities exploding into horrible, violent, retributive behavior.

Photos don't lie. This story is now going to be instantly dropped and disappeared by the American and Canadian media and liberal politicians.
I wonder how actual females feel about their sex being slandered by the media referring to the shooter as a woman.

The Raleigh mass shooter's defense team has to be using the dumbest defense tactic ever for explaining why someone committed a mass shooting.

I dunno. Do men get to complain about the FtM trans person that killed a bunch of people at The Covenant School in Nashville a couple of years ago?

I suspect the MtF trans community may have more shootings on their side of the ledger than the FtM, but it is still a relatively small number either way. Both sets of trans people face similar mental health challenges.
