Maybe the shooting in Canada triggered/inspired the shooter in Rhode Island.

The Canadian kid had a history of mental illness and threats against family prior to and then continuing after announcing gender transition.

A healthy society would be able to have a complex view about several recent cases suggesting disproportionate representation of transgender individuals in mass violent attacks and the extent to which violently mentally ill individuals might be drawn to gender transition (or such feelings might be destabilizing psychologically and lead to violent ideation) for reasons arising from underlying mental health issues, while also acknowledging they are a fraction of the already small number of people who are not violent or threatening but seek recognition/tolerance of their own gender fluidity and/or seek gender transition.

In the Rhode Island case, the shooter apparently had a fairly extensive online history of being a vocal Trump/MAGA supporter, so the shooter was apparently consumed with deeply contradictory behaviors and opinions.

Unfortunately literally every mass shooting now is immediately followed by online lunatics insisting the shooter was trans. Every one. Maybe that in itself has had a negative impact on violently mentally ill people, creating an association between gender transition and violent mass murder that didn’t previously exist. There is a well established history of serial and mass murderers taking inspiration from and emulating prior killers. Sick online culture of hatred toward trans people may have created an additional murderous ideation that incorporates a warped view of trans people. It’s a notion that has permeated pop culture for decades, with one case (Ed Gein) feeding a long line of gender confused fictional murderers (Norman Bates, Leatherface and Buffalo Bill most famously).

Whatever the case, It is repulsive how transphobia people will exploit one trait over all others to promote hatred toward and further isolate and torment the vast majority of transgender people who are not violent or a threat to anyone (perhaps other than themselves at a very high rate). But it would also be irrational to ignore a recent series of actual or attempted mass violence by people who were or claimed to be trans without having society examine whether there is a behavioral trend or a coincidence of timing.

Same could be said for the disproportionate representation of white biological men as the perpetrators of such attacks and perhaps the over representation of political extremism among such violent actors.

We’ve chosen or conceded to living in a country with more guns than people, so we know that violently mentally ill people have easy access to weapons that enhance violent ideation and make mass killings easier. As a matter of self-defense if not basic societal decency we have to rationally examine any and all contributing factors to such violent behaviors.

That would definitely be on the older scale. Most are in their late 20s for early 30s and the trend is moving younger. There have been a few septuagenarian and octogenarian mass shooters but they are very rare.
This seems more like a guy trying to kill his family which skews older. Jeffrey McDonald, Ronald Simmons, John List, Chris Watts, Alex Murdaugh etc

Thank you for putting what I was trying to say in much mor eloquent terms.

The Rhode Island shooter also had a giant SS and skull tattoo on his arm. I think we generally need to move past trying to ascribe any coherent ideology to these types of chronically online shooters, but of course that doesn’t get clicks and so won’t happen.

Get out of here with that over the top junk, homie. She/him shim is no different that he/she. People like you just can't help themselves making a mountain out of a molehill.
From chatGPT:

“Shim" is a highly offensive, derogatory slang term used to mock or demean transgender people.

It is a portmanteau of "she" and "him" and is classified as a slur intended to misgender and dehumanize individuals.

Best thing to do is just put the racists and bigots like ram on ignore. Racists, bigots and supporters of pedophiles shouldn't have a voice here.

I get your main point and agree with it but note that mass shooters are not disproportionately white biological men. Mass shootings breakdown demographically roughly as you would expect by race and ethnicity. Blacks are very slightly overrepresented while Hispanics are very slightly underrepresented but there are enough cases out there where the races aren't clear to call it a wash.

Biological males are enormously over represented versus females.

And what does the data show? Most mass shootings, the huge majority of them, are committed by white males.
Well, first, it depends on how you define mass shooting. The way it's defined in some places, a drive-by shooting in downtown Chicago qualifies as a mass shooting.

But, surely you aren't denying the obvious uptick in mass shootings specifically by transgender women.

It may not be that trans woman are committing a high percentage of mass shootings, but a disproportionate amount of trans woman are committing mass shootings when compared to other demographics, recently.

I'm not denying you're an obtuse moron.

It is hardly news that people undergoing a great deal of personal stress are more likely to snap and kill. It is also hardly news that socially ostracized individuals are also less stable and prone to violent outbursts.

To be trans in 2025-26 has been to experience tremendous personal stress because the medical care you relied on has disappeared. Even in states that haven't tried to make transgenderism illegal, many hospitals have been withdrawing gender affirming care in order to avoid retribution from Trump. My wife has a lot of patients whose care just vanished almost overnight. Some were under 18; many are not. And if you are receiving gender affirming care and that is suddenly pulled away, instability should be expected. It's like if we suddenly took away everyone's SSRIs and are surprised that suicides are up.

In addition, to be trans now is to be the new scapegoat for everything. So the social ostracism is even worse. Again, my wife's patients tend to report much higher social stress than in the past. This is in part because schools and workplaces have had their arms twisted (or laws have been passed, or school board policies set) to be much less trans welcoming.

So combine more stress + withdrawal of medical care + more ostracism and the obvious and expected outcome is more people will flip out. I'm not even sure you can blame them too much. I don't fault Nat Turner for going on a murderous rampage -- I think most of us would do so in that position if we could. And while the oppression of trans people is not remotely close to slavery, it is intentionally cruel and disparaging. If the people around you have basically made clear they'd rather you not exist, then why should they expect you to respect their right to exist?

This was predicted a year ago and we've seen it play out. When a society acts violently to some of its members, it should expect the violence to be returned. If we don't want internecine conflict, then treat everyone with respect.
