Also I'll add a massive thank you to local faith leaders in Chicago for getting out on the front lines of this. Their presence at protests like this is invaluable - both because they can be a calming influence on everyone and because it's important to see faith leaders who "walk the walk" when it comes to the teachings of Jesus (or Muhammad, or the Talmud, or whatever) rather than just talking the talk.

I don’t think going after national guard troops is a good look. These are guys who signed up to protect our country and would rather be anywhere else. They have no choice.

I laughed at the comment about Hegseth being upset but that is because Hegseth is so wrong.

Now if they start brutalizing protesters or infringing on the rights of citizens then that becomes a different matter.
Nobody is making fun of the troops. The jokes about them being fat are really aimed at the depravity of those attempting to utilize them for nefarious purposes.

That is, the unfitness of these national guard members follows from the national guard's purpose. It is supposed to be used for emergencies only. It used to be that people could serve a lifetime in the national guard without being called up. It was just a part of their daily lives -- you know, like getting fat in middle age. And it was OK, because the Guard was only needed as a fighting force in extreme situations.

Well, under Trump they aren't the last resort: they are the first resort. And that's the message of the humor about their girth. These people are not being sent to Chicago because they are the most qualified for the task. They are being sent there because they can be controlled by Trump.

It's all leading to invoking the Insurrection Act.
This is exactly why MAGA needs to be curb-stomped into non-existence as soon as we get the chance. We gave them a second bite at the apple when we tried to use legal process to stop Trump, when in reality he should have been court-martialed and tried as an insurgent. Now look at what they are doing.

If we ever get the apple back, there can be no third bite. Their political movement must be obliterated, and its leaders made to pay for their crimes. Bondi, Patel, Hegseth -- these people must pay a serious price. They must be made examples of, to discourage would-be fascist tyrants in the future. And we must not give them the process and respect they will not give others.

So far, the ICE gang has shot & killed an unarmed man & lied about the circumstances; shot a woman 5 times for obstructing their vehicle; roughed up elderly women and zip-tied small children; shot a clergyman in the face with a pepper ball; marched through downtown Chicago, masked and armed. And they're NOT going after the "worst of the worse," as promised. Most of the people they're snagging have clean records. Some are citizens. To be clear: this is NOT making Chicago safer. It's state-sponsored mayhem; dangerous political theater calculated to provoke.

Walter Cronkite( CBS ), Frank Reynolds and Howard K. Smith (ABC ), Chet Huntley and David Brinkley ( NBC ) anchored the nightly news back in the 60's and each night showed the carnage going on in the Viet Nam War.

I believe watching those horrors played a large part in turning the broader America against the war.

It is time that broader America be shown the daily horrors that Trump's Stormtroopers are perpetrating against our own people in America today.
I wasn’t around at that time. From what I understand people at that time had an “unfavorable” view of the troops. So leaders spent decades changing that perception. IMO it’s become a bit ridiculous with the ra-ra-ra, rally around the troops, but I digress. I wouldn’t be surprised to see American’s views of the troops return to negative.

This is just another example of all the effort and resources used to build things that trump is tearing down for his own short-term gain.
