So will the people who said stupid racist bullshit come back to the thread and acknowledge they were wrong, and examine what led them to suggest stupid racist bullshit in the first place?

Or nah?
I suspect blaming the measles outbreak on immigrants was a talking point in the right wing media bubble this week. Two conservatives came to this thread separately with that notion and I just don’t believe that light bulb switched for both of them without perusing right wing talking points.

It's also some specious reasoning to worry about unvaccinated immigrants while cheering the push toward the antivax movement in the US. Anybody who tries to sell both sides needs a checkup from the neck up.
Yeah, I don’t get the point of these arguments.
It’s not the fault of the unvaccinated. It’s the fault of the unvaccinated.
Ahhhh, good point.

There it is. From a CNN town hall in April.

Representative Ryan Mackenzie of Pennsylvania said in a CNN town hall on Thursday that immigrants with no legal status in the U.S. were "bringing these diseases into our country." When asked to expand upon the comment, Mackenzie cited UN statistics showing that child immunization rates in Latin America and the Caribbean have plummeted.

"Large-scale migration from countries with low rates of immunization brings down our own nation's average rates and increases our susceptibility to outbreaks," Mackenzie said in a statement to Newsweek. “It is common sense for Americans to have concerns regarding the public health consequences of unchecked migration from regions struggling to immunize their populations against diseases, especially measles."

Why isn't this being cited as an object lesson on why we don't want to go down the antivaxxer path ourselves instead of being turned into another racist diatribe? Curious minds want to know. Incurious minds don't give a shit because they are dumbasses.

This right here.

I'd like to know what constitutes "plummet" and how impactful that would be on measles cases. If this jackass cared about solutions, he would too.

"The average for 2022 based on 19 countries was 80 percent. The highest value was in Uruguay: 96 percent and the lowest value was in Paraguay: 54 percent. The indicator is available from 1980 to 2022. Below is a chart for all countries where data are available."

Now of course, that isn't the whole answer, but I sure wish these assholes would at least try.

They don't believe in apologies.

They especially don't buy this one.In his work ‘Apology’ Plato's Apology (38a5–6), Socrates famously stated that “the unexamined life is not worth living.” The basic thought behind this phrase is that an unexamined life can be seen as a stagnant one—without growth, development, and exploration of our own thoughts and ideas. To Socrates, self-reflection was paramount to leading a meaningful and fulfilling existence.
