Fresh off his victory over ABC/Disney …

This is actually how Trump has operated for decades, and he learned this tactic at the knee of one of his earliest lawyers and mentors, Roy Cohn. Who also happened to be Joseph McCarthy's top aide and enthusiastic participant in the McCarthyite witch hunts of the early to mid 1950s - a smaller-scale preview of what we see now. Cohn was known as "McCarthy's attack dog" and his advice to Trump was to always be on the offensive, never apologize, intimidate and bully and bluster, and threaten to sue at the drop of a hat.

The difference now is that as a second-term president with no guardrails he can use the full power of the government to bully, threaten, and intimidate any of his media critics into backing down. What's interesting is that this Iowa pollster has already been publicly humiliated with her wildly wrong prediction, and she's already announced that she's leaving the polling profession. But that's not good enough for Trump, who is nothing if not vindictive and petty. She'll be forced to bend the knee and offer profuse apologies, or suffer the consequences, even though she's not going to be a pollster anymore.

Trump ramps up legal threats against news outlets

"...News organizations are on high alert after President-elect Trump filed yet another defamation lawsuit on Monday — and vowed to continue suing new outlets and influencers over their coverage.

Why it matters: While there are political levers that Trump can pull to target media companies, harassment campaigns and lawsuits that drain companies of time, money, resources and trust are often easier and just as punitive.

... On Monday, Trump filed suit against the Des Moines Register over a poll it ran showing him possibly losing the presidential race.

...Trump has been suing media companies for years, but leading up to his second term, he's taken a more aggressive stance.

  • Trump filed a $10 billion lawsuit against CBS over allegedly doctoring its "60 Minutes" interview with Vice President Harris. CBS has filed motions to dismiss the complaints.
  • The parent company to Trump's Truth Social network, Trump Media & Technology Group (TMTG), filed a $3.8 billion defamation lawsuit against The Post, claiming an article falsely accused the company of securities fraud.
Yes, but: While Trump has a long history of filing lawsuits against media companies, he doesn't have a winning track record. ..."

Smart move by Trump. He's learned from his buddy Orban that freedom of speech and freedom of the press must be overcome to achieve his authoritarian goals. The America Lasters on the Supreme Court have already eviscerated the Second, Fifth, Sixth, Eighth, Fourteenth, Fifteenth, Sixteenth, and Twenty-fourth Amendments at Trump's request, so it's never been a better time to take a shot at the granddaddy of them all.

Trump allies float extreme ideas, including Trump third term, at gala

Radical suggestions come from Steve Bannon and indicate most polarizing proposals will be up for consideration

"... Those suggestions, by Trump’s former strategist Steve Bannon, came at a self-congratulatory gala dinner for conservatives in New York on Sunday. At times the remarks seemed like the product of the euphoria that permeated the audience.

“We want retribution and we’re going to get retribution. You have to. It’s not personal, it’s not personal,” Bannon said to the raucous room. “They need to learn what populist, nationalist power is on the receiving end.

“I need investigations, trials and then incarceration. And I’m just talking about the media. Should the media be included in the vast criminal conspiracy against President Trump? Should Andrew Weissmann on MSNBC and Rachel Maddow and all of them?

“We want all your emails, all your text messages, everything you did. You colluded in a conspiracy with Merrick Garland, Nancy Pelosi, Lisa Monaco and Jack Smith,” Bannon said, name-checking the attorney general, former Democratic House speaker, the deputy attorney general and the Trump special counsel.

The threatening rhetoric, and especially the concept of using a criminal conspiracy statute against Trump’s political enemies, has been permeating through Bannon’s orbit for some time since the election. But Sunday night’s gala was the first time it was floated outside of the Maga ecosystem.

The remarks also turned at various points as Bannon segued abruptly from politics to how the bond market’s response to the national debt could make or break Trump’s presidency, and questioned whether New York mayor Eric Adams was a QAnon conspiracy adherent.

In a night of unexpected turns, the most dramatic moment came earlier when senior Trump campaign adviser Alex Bruesewitz keeled over the lectern and collapsed off the stage in an apparent medical episode. Organizers later said he was treated on site and speculated he had a seizure. ..."

And the Dems will continue to let rightwing media just steamroll them without making a whimper.

Unexpected turn indeed! Man, that really buttoned up the whole article. Also, upvote for "keeled over"...

“I would have pulled the switch if they let me. Why? Because I hate traitors. I HATE communists. Was it legal? FUCK legal. Not nice? Fuck nice. The Nation says I'm not nice? FUCK THE NATION. Do you wanna be NICE? Or you wanna be EFFECTIVE?”

So sending a well deserved "stern" letter = fascist. You guys have so overblown, overused, misused, and any other adjective that might be appropriate here for the word. It is on track to replace "racist" as the most misappropriated word in the liberal vocabulary. Its almost like people who have that as their default word lack the intelligence to know what the word means and is proof of brainwashing by those in charge of what they think. Maybe there is a chance for a class action suit against whoopie, joy behar, madcow, and oprah. They have sure made you guys into fools.

Of course the ultimate defense against trump is for those organizations to just report the truth and leave their political agendas to influence elections out of their reporting. 60 minutes should absolutely be fined and have their license placed on probation.
