We're at about Stage 6 of 10 in the Orbanization of America. Both mainstream and social media have pretty much capitulated without a fight. The next things to look for will be:

1. Attempts to exert federal control over universities, starting with the proposal to levy substantial taxes on endowments.
2. Race-based quotas for legal immigration.
3. Increased rhetoric around leaving NATO and entering into new non-Euro-based military partnerships.
4. Replacement of military leadership with Trump loyalists.

I'll be very surprised if we don't see all of those within the next year.

They don't call him Zuck the Cuck for nothing. Total genuflection from that humanoid without even the pretense of a backbone.

Agreed. It's all happening much faster than I anticipated. I mean, Trump isn't even in office yet, and the media and America's oligarchs have already bent the knee.

Honestly, those who can leave probably ought to be making plans. Things happen slowly, till they don't.

This is why it’s time to support independent media. The folks working in those spaces will have a difficult time disseminating their work and will undoubtedly find themselves at greater physical and financial risk.

With China and Russia facing enormous demographic and economic challenges, we had a chance to cement America's status as the world's singular hegemon for decades to come. We could have laid out the path to a new era of peace, prosperity, equality and freedom. It was right there for the taking.

Instead, we decided to become Hungary. Which is just behind St. Kitts and Nevis in GDP per capita. Nice job, Republicans.

I'll rephrase from MAGA's perspective.

1. Condition continued federal support of universities with eradication antisemitism on campus (including teachings), guarantees of free speech on campus (no "hate speech" codes) and ending discrimination in admissions. Reasonable taxation of endowments unless endowments used to reduce tuition costs for students.
2. Skill-based consideration for legal immigration.
3. Continued efforts to have NATO members increase defense spending to at least 2% of their GDP (only 23 out of 31 are in compliance).
4. Replace woke political generals with fighting generals.

Doesn't sound so bad to me.

Right. That’s because you want us to look like Hungary. We’re all aware of that already.

“Amazon is paying an astonishing $40million to license Brett Ratner's documentary about Melania Trump, according to a new report.

The documentary, directed by Ratner, was announced Sunday, and is set for release in the second half of 2025 during her husband's administration.

Melania, 54, is the production's executive producer, and Jeff Bezos's film and television studio is reportedly shelling out the big bucks for licensing rights.

… the deal also includes a follow-up docuseries.

It's unclear what Melania is being paid personally for the project.

The film and docuseries will appear on Prime Video, with the film getting some time in theaters as well, the insiders said.

The docuseries will reportedly include two or three episodes, with Melania heavily involved. The documentary began filming last month and will continue during Trump's presidency.

Disney and Paramount reportedly lost out on the streaming rights after a bidding war with Amazon, which is owned by the second-richest man in the world. Neither Netflix nor Apple took part, the sources said.“

Post-truth world expands

I mean, it is consistent with his vision of populating social media with AI posters and inviting youth to reside in an online metaverse instead of the real world.

Only 23 out of 31? That's 75%. I wonder how close to the 2% the other 8 are? I'm guessing pretty close...

And how much progress does that represent in the last few years?

ETA: Seems like MAGA wants to claim credit for something that's already mostly fixed.

"I welcome what [NATO] Secretary General Stoltenberg yesterday called an 'unprecedented rise' in defense spending across our European and Canadian allies, who have added more than $600 billion for defense since the Defense Investment Pledge was made in 2014, including a real increase of 11% in defense spending in 2023 alone," Austin said in today's statement. "The secretary general projects that in 2024, 18 allies will spend at least 2% of their GDP on defense — a major improvement over 2014, when only three hit that target. Any ally not spending at least 2% of GDP on defense this year should have plans to swiftly meet that target."

Austin said he was pleased by the progress the U.S. and allies made at today's meeting of NATO defense ministers in Brussels and underscored the importance of the alliance to U.S.

Trump's "threats" to NATO countries caused them to increase defense spending. In 2017 only 12 NATO allies met the NATO guideline to spend at least 2% of GDP on defense. Today it's 23.
