I mean he does not need money-ever. He just seems to be buying orangeturds favor and Okay with horsehit on his platforms
Agreed on currying favor with Trump, which seems to be all the rage with corporations and media sites and wealthy plutocrats right now. Still doesn't make him an alpha male, and it's telling that his opening facebook and instagram to personal insults seems to be targeted at allowing insults of certain groups (say, transgenders and gays) and not others (say, Trump supporters). Which seems to be where we're heading on social media generally.

What is really disturbing about all this is that we're seeing the rolling back of diversity initiatives across a wide away of corporations, which means that decades of hard work are being wiped out in a matter of a few months because many corporations are terrified of Trump and his supporters and aren't willing to fight anymore or to promote the shocking idea that diversity in workplaces and society is a good thing, given how extremely diverse our society has become.

Have you met Michael Connelly?
Not personally, but have been in email exchanges with him. He wrote at the end of one of the seasons about how happy he was with one of the graphics I made, which represented the end of one long running character arc on the show.

The 62-year-old [columnist Jennifer Rubin] indicated she will continue to write scathing columns about Trump at her new site, The Contrarian, which she launched Monday along with the CNN legal analyst Norm Eisen (who is also exiting his role).

"... She went more in depth in a statement shared with the Daily Beast: “We’ve watched as corporate and billionaire owners of media outlets abused their audiences’ loyalty and undercut journalism’s vital role in a free democracy. Instead of safeguarding democratic values, they have enabled the gravest threats to democracy—Donald Trump and his allies—at the very time when a robust and independent press is most essential. We need an alternative, truly independent outlet that is unafraid of the administration and unwilling to equivocate or bend the knee.” ..."

Social Media is going to be the death of us all eventually. It spreads lies and disinformation and propaganda faster than the truth can catch up to it. And as the technology improves it's only going to get worse, not better.
Yep, I've been shouting about the societal and political threat presented by social media since at least 2018 when I deactivated my Facebook account. These platforms have become significantly more toxic and disinformative since that time with the rise of an additional app (TikTok) and the right's commitment to further leveraging these platforms for political gain. Now the billionaire technocrat owners of these social media platforms have bent the knee and are removing the already-insufficient disinformation guardrails from social media before Trump has even taken office. And in Elon's case, he's transformed sXitter into an unfettered propaganda machine that would make even Goebbels blush. Roughly half of the American electorate inhabits an alternate reality and there's seemingly nothing that can be done about it.

Kind of a side point but reading the first 20 or so comments on that tweets/whatever surprised me.

I know X has fallen into a right wing echo chamber but I didn’t realize the full extent.

I think it's clear by this point that was Musk's intent from the beginning - to move the platform sharply to the right. And he's succeeded beyond his wildest dreams. And now it seems clear that other large social media platforms are all moving in that direction as well, except for Bluesky, assuming that Musk or some other right-wing plutocrat doesn't buy it as well.

It's abundantly clear that in his second term Trump & Company are actively going to use the government to intimidate and suppress any celebrity or media figure or organization they don't like into silence regarding him or his minions or the activities or policies of his administration. It's literally Viktor Orban's playbook, and it worked for him in Hungary brilliantly, and it has a great chance of working here as well.

Sounds an awful lot like *gasp* government censorship.

We were in a Lyft today and my wife spotted near the end of the ride that the driver was listening on his ear buds to a youtube video that was entitled the Secret Execution of the Traitor Mark Milley. That optional tip quickly dissapeared.
