In its second weekend, "Melania" dropped from #3 to #10 in domestic box office despite adding 225 theaters. It sank a whopping 66.8% from last weekend. Nine of the top 13 movies had better per-screen averages. After 10 days, it has grossed an embarrassing $13.353,819 against a budget of at least $75 million. If this were a standard studio release with a similar gross and production & advertising budget, people would be fired and likely never work in Hollywood again. However, because it's simply a tribute/bribe paid to the mad king, everything's A-okay.
At the end of the year, count on "Melania" showing up on plenty of "barking-dog-disappointment" and "worst-movie-of-the-year" lists. Even bulk ticket sales couldn't save this one. I can only imagine how bad the concession comps were for the theaters with empty auditoriums. Guess everyone will get a good deal on those special popcorn buckets ... at least those that don't wind up in the landfill first.
